I think it'd make more sense to wait at least until there's more information released about them. Now it's only a bunch of pictures we can go by, which is too little to add tropes. We can wait until at least there are proper character descriptions released.
Is the company of Mark Beaks called "Waddle" or "Wattle"? Both are bird-related terms (the way ducks walk vs. the fleshy appendage under a chicken's beak); and while the W logo is shaped like a rooster wattle, the car's license plate in "Beware the BUDDY System" says WDDL MBL, which looks like the consonants from "Waddle Mobile".
Hide / Show RepliesAnd Beaks re-brands Gizmoduck as "Waddleduck", spelled out as such. "Wattle" seems to be a Mondegreen.
Is Dewey's actual full name Dewford Duck or Deuteronomy Duck? On the character page, someone consistently turned it to "Deuteronomy", confirming it with a link to D23, which is broken, but when someone asked Frank Angones on his tumblr blog why the name was changed to Dewford, his answer sounds like the name is Dewford: https://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/post/165666837001/another-ducktales-question-in-the-comics
Hide / Show RepliesHuey calls him "Dewford" early in the premiere, which certainly seems to be his full name in this incarnation. I can't remember at this moment if that comes up again or not, but until someone corrects it, I'd say he's now a Dewford.
More recent Word of God says that his full name is "Dewford Deuteronomy Duck". https://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/post/169394491536/i-belive-we-have-never-seen-how-deweys-full-name
Is the show really on the same extreme of the Sliding Scale of Idealism Versus Cynicism as the original? It's frequent use of Black Comedy, and the occasional Karma Houdini like Mark Beaks, at least shows a pinch of cynicism.
I tried to clean up the Mythology Gag and Shout-Out pages to avoid duplicates, following the lines that references to other Disney Ducks media such as classic shorts, comics and the 1987 cartoon series go under Mythology Gag, and references to unrelated media go under Shout-Out. But there's a grey zone: references to other Disney Afternoon shows. At the moment, the name-drop references to Tale Spin, Darkwing Duck and Goof Troop are under Shout-Out, but character cameos from A Goofy Movie are under Mythology Gag. Where do you think these fit better?
Hide / Show RepliesI'd say anything that's not directly related to the Duck family for now should be under Shout-Out, at least until we know how much the other Disney Afternoon stuff is going to feature in the show. Darkwing Duck, admittedly, is a bit of a gray area, as it's technically a Spin-Off of a Launchpad episode with him becoming the sidekick, but we'll deal with that one when he actually shows up.
Thanks for the feedback! I moved the references to A Goofy Movie to the Shout-Out page, and added a disclaimer on top of both pages to clarify what belongs where.
Another question of the same matter: Gyro's inventions include the Cogs from Toontown Online. This is now listed both under Shout-Out and under Mythology Gag. Under which one do they fit better? Toontown Online is not right-out Disney Ducks media, but it features the characters. Same question goes for any possible future reference to Kingdom Hearts.
Probably Mythology Gag considering how Gyro indirectly created the Cogs in the game's beta.
Kingdom Hearts references will probably depend on how they play out.
Edited by Karxrida If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?True, but wasn't the Cogs' backstory with Gyro eventually removed from Toon Town Online? That puts it closer to Shout-Out (and possibly a Development Gag).
I wouldn't be surprised if we'll end up needing to have a character page specifically for the reboot. I get the feeling these versions of the characters are gonna have tropes specific to them or play their usual tropes in a new way and we wouldn't want to clutter up the The Disney Ducks Comic Universe page with things that aren't really applicable to it. From the trailer alone we know Webby is completely different than she was, that the Nephews have been subjected to Divergent Character Evolution and that Donald is gonna be an Adaptation Badass.
Hide / Show RepliesYeah, I wouldn't say no to that. But we may have to wait at least until the first episode or so. There's still a lot we don't know.
Yeah let the show start...in any case it's not gonna diverge too much. It would take say, Louie to be an actual Evil Triplet, Scrooge to not be a miser for the show to be entirely divergent.
I know this thread is kind of old, but I think at least the nephews (and Webby) are different enough from their previous incarnations to need a separate page. Mrs. Beakley is DEFINITELY not the same as her original Duck Tales personality, although we've still seen very little of her. So a completely separate character page would not be out of place, especially as we start to see how Scrooge and Donald diverge from their old personalities.
I think it's a good idea to link the Disney Ducks' Characters Page to the Duck Tales Reboot's page (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/DisneyDucksComicUniverse?from=Characters.DuckTales), same as how it's linked to the Original Duck Tales page. Does anyone know how to do it?
Should we give character folders to those introduced in SDCC 2019, coming to Season 3? We already had folders for characters like Fenton/Gizmoduck before they even appeared.
