WARNING: Spoiler in here, regarding Selkie's people.

Is Selkie Lovecraft Lite?

Some certainly seem to think so, but I'm not so sure. The way I read the Lovecraft Lite trope entry, Lovecraft Lite involves cosmic horror without the "humans-are-worthless-insects", and/or with some Big Damn Heroes that can [[Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?? punch out Cthulhu]]. Selkie seems to me like it doesn't fit either of these.

Some have mentioned the "Doom That Came To Sarnath"/Selkie's people being the sarnothi link, but I thought that "Doom" was really just the inspiration for the fish-person design.

What do you think? Lovecraft Lite or not?

I'll acknowledge that maybe I jumped the gun a bit, but the details of what Selkie's people are (natural venomous Fish People carnivores), coupled with this reference and the huge government cover-up. I mean, if they were alien refugees, there would be no reason to hide this information from their caretakers.

It's probably too speculative at this point, but it seems to me the story is heading down a darker path. I'll accept the example being pulled for now.
