Exactly. This is one reason viewers use to support their case that they expected a happier ending where Carl actually learned from his mistakes and fixed stuff!

Is Carl a Hate Sink? Seems like Doug made him to showcase all the worst qualities of stereotypical gamers (Moral Myopia, selfishness, vanity, entitlement..).

Probably. The only problem is that there is still a huge percentage of the general demographic who thinks that those stereotypes are accurate, so it appears to rub some people the wrong way when Doug seemingly reinforces them. Oh well, such drama happens all the time. We'll look back at this ten years from now when the entire gamer-stereotyping will be moot and laaaaaaugh. :)

Under New Media are Evil, it is said Carl had negative qualities before his video game addiction. I would argue this is incorrect; we never see Carl before his addiction, and the fact that he got a girlfriend and a career at some point in the past means Jessica and his company must have seen some good in him at some point.
