Got money for Personal Space first. Personal Space ended up being the best show I worked on. Unknown to me until it was too late, it also was a show with a deeply problematic cast member; two other cast members died; and other stuff conspired to collectively doom Personal Space Season 2. The whole situation put me off of working in mediums that require attaching my reputation to other people. I write prose now. It's nice, it's clean, and it gets published. There won't be a Season 3 of Echo Chamber, but if anyone still remembers this little show in 2023, I can tell them what we had planned.
So... Every single link in the body of the page leads me to an error message. Can someone better at formatting than I am find out how to fix it? It looks normal in editing.
Hide / Show RepliesThere was something during a server switchover that blew up. It's been backed out for now.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSo... season 3. Is that happening? Is it in Development Hell?
I've been here too long. Regretting choosing this screenname ten years ago. What do people think about making a season 3 with an all new cast starting with Mind Screw Driver?
Re: I Call Her "Vera", I'm not sure that applies or not. I genuinely don't know what Zack said there. Zack has a tendency to twist his lines ever so slightly (memorizing lines is not his thing—he sees himself as a DP, not an actor).
So, regardless of what is in the script, I'm not sure what he says when he says "___ back, please". It seems to me like he is saying "Lens baby", personally.
Hide / Show RepliesI heard it as "lensy" when he first entered and greeted it "Hey, lensy..."— a baby-talk diminutive of "lens". I guess we'd have to ask Zack, if he even remembers.
Edited by Madrugada ...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.When I rewatched the second season premiere after finishing the season, I noticed that a picture of Zack's dad was seen briefly on [citation needed], and Ace said most of his name. I'm wondering what trope to call that... foreshadowing, Chekhov's Gunman, Chekhov's News... and also if there's a specific trope for cutting off the name (Mark Wall-), like an Unreveal, Smash Cut, His Name Is, or something like that...
Any chance we could get a video-free version of the page for folks like me, who can only manage one or two Blip videos at a time or their browser seizes up? It took me fifteen minutes of load waiting for me to even get here to make this request...
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. Hide / Show RepliesI guess we could make it at Sandbox.Echo Chamber — it would be useful.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Couldn't the videos other than the latest one just be links anyway? The page is ridiculously slow, but it was fine back when there was just one embedded video.
Educomix: "Good. I'll make toast."I'm thinking that the episode summaries (3/4 of the way down the page) oughta be combined with the listing of tropes per episode. That split seems redundant to me.
Also, I'd rather have Season 2 embedded than Season 1.
Hide / Show RepliesThe listing of tropes per episode should really be on the recap page anyway...
Educomix: "Good. I'll make toast."So, is Season 2 going to have more episodes than Season 1 or have the same amount of episodes, just released over 5 weeks instead of 10?
I've been here too long. Regretting choosing this screenname ten years ago. Hide / Show RepliesIt's having twelve episodes at two per week, so six weeks.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Re: Unfortunate Implications, I would just like to point out that Stefan Dezil is not the first non-white actor to appear on the show, as Pat Kane is 1/16th Choctaw.
...Yeah, ok. You're right. Nevermind. :(
Does "end transmission" count as Mr. Administrator's catch phrase by now?
I've been here too long. Regretting choosing this screenname ten years ago. Hide / Show Repliesbump
I've been here too long. Regretting choosing this screenname ten years ago.Hmmm. Got a couple of applicability questions:
- Is Zack's art degree an example of Or Is It? ? If not, what is it?
- Does "It sucks. You suck." count as a Catchphrase for Dana yet?
1. I don't know. 2. Yeah, I'd say so.
I've been here too long. Regretting choosing this screenname ten years ago.Good job on the season finale guys! Now, how long do we have to wait until the next one? Either way, I say you all deserve at least a months break for the work, notwithstanding any crazy demands Mr. Administrator makes...;)
Hide / Show RepliesThanks! Yeah, we're taking some time off, but not really all that much. We have to start on Season 2.
Don't burn yourself out though! Make sure you get plenty of rest and fluids before starting on Season 2 ;)
Does Dana referring to herself and Tom as "two people who don't care about each other talking about tropes" in Episode 9 count as a Call-Back to Episode 5, where Dana asked about adding sexual tension so they wouldn't just seem like "two characters who don't care about each other talking about tropes"?
Hide / Show RepliesSure sounds like one to me. Good catch.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Uh, are all episodes going to be added to their tropes pages as the main image thing? I think it would be better if they had a separate tab icon thing, like the YMMV, WMG icons.
... Hide / Show RepliesI think Savage Wolf means: will the Echo Chamber embeds in other trope pages permanently replace the page images? (Correct me if I am paraphrasing you wrong.)
I believe the plan is for them to replace the page image only for the first week. After that, the embed will be shifted down lower on the page.
Edited by TanzmetallYou split the page after one episode? Why? And a separate page for every 5-7 minute video is incredibly wasteful. One page with folders will be perfectly adequate for at least the first season.
Edited by Killomatic Regulated fun - the best kind! I don't make the rules, just enforce them with an iron fist. This is just silly. Who wants to add a new page to their watchlist every week. Furthermore there isn't even always a clear distinction between general and episode-specific tropes. There isn't even anything to indicate you have to put episode-specific trope somewhere other than the main page.
Edited by Killomatic Regulated fun - the best kind! I don't make the rules, just enforce them with an iron fist.I don't think I'd mind one bit if you migrated them to the main page. However, me, my cast, and my crew are not allowed to edit this page, so you're gonna have to take the initiative if you want that to happen.
That's done. I'll cutlist the recap subpages now. The main recap page can stay, in case the plot does become hard to follow at some point.
Regulated fun - the best kind! I don't make the rules, just enforce them with an iron fist.Hmm I dont know if I should post this here but, is there a way to keep the images in the trope's pages?
Edited by Dante2001Like I said above, the plan is to move the embed. They'll only be front and center for a little while after the video's introduction. The only reason some of them haven't moved on, is there is an ongoing discussion about where to move them to.
I still think we need to come up with even a better place to put them "front and center." The image serves a purpose, that of explaining the trope at a glance, something the video cannot ever hope to do.
Everyone Has An Important Job To DoLots of people speculated that my outfit in Romantic False Lead was an homage to Doctor Who. I'm Jossing that theory officially here. I bought that sports jacket only because I thought it was profoundly ugly. I mean, what's not to love? It's the color of cat vomit! And it's plaid!
Also, I don't watch Doctor Who (although Zack and Yulin do). I do love bowties, though.
Yeah, if you want to put this under a Trivia tab about Shout-Out, I wouldn't. It's more a case of negative Author Appeal.
You're right. Sorry. I was thinking of Word of God, which *is* trivia. Still, it's not a Shout-Out.
Someone else already figured this out and updated the page, though, so I'm not gonna worry about it anymore.
Took this off of the Episode 7 list:
- Invoked Trope: And Dana is not pleased.
Because an invoked trope is "a character deliberately sets up a trope to happen."
Which character set up what trope?
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it. Hide / Show RepliesI believe this is referring to the episode being about Tom invoking Walk and Talk, and Dana being displeased. Basically the entire episode is an Invoked Trope.
Edited by TanzmetallAh. Couldn't see the forest for the trees...
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Is there any point adding Jiggle Physics to the list due to Shannons...*ahem*...talent. It's Lampshaded by Tom a few times. Or is there a more appropriate trope to file it under? Or would it be too crude? XD
Hide / Show RepliesNo on both Jiggle Physics and Gainaxing. They simply don't apply; Shannon is not computer generated nor is she an animation.
Jiggle Physics is "the art and science of simulating the behaviour of non-rigid objects and materials in a computer." That the very first line of the definition.
Gainaxing's very first line is: "The act of drawing a female character with unusually large and buoyant breasts and without a bra, then animating every individual jiggle, sway, bounce and bobble they undergo."
Edited by Madrugada ...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Actually reading the entry? Sounds like too much work. (Sorry.) And I did think it doesn't apply to real people.
Edited by DougSMachinaLooking at the page, Gainaxing has at least as many non-animated examples, including a Video Games and even a Real Life folder.
Edited by Killomatic Regulated fun - the best kind! I don't make the rules, just enforce them with an iron fist. Thanks for the help guys. I will make a Suspiciously Specific Denial here and deny I'm trying to insinuate anything or insult anyone. ;)
Seriously, I love the series and wanted to catalogue as many appropriate tropes as possible and the fact that Tom kept mentioning Shannons...talent...made me wonder where to file it under, if indeed it needed filing.
Killomatic, those are bad examples, and should be removed. The Live action ones should be under Jiggle Show or should be cut completely, and the video games are either correct or should be under Jiggle Physics. The Real Life section needs to die in a fire.

Shannon's ...talents... are probably Buxom Is Better for Tom and I Have Boobs, You Must Obey! for Shannon herself.
There's also some aspect of Male Gaze, as Zack follows Shannon walking away with the camera, keeping her in focus and dropping Dana out of focus in the foreground.
Edited by Madrugada ...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Nope. Read the page. "Note that this trope applies exclusively to "superheroines" / "supervillainesses", ... For normal women, see the supertrope, Buxom Is Better."
Edited by Madrugada ...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Which is also incorrect, since there's more to Buxom Is Better than normal women with a large breast size. Ever think we have way too many tropes about boobs?
Regulated fun - the best kind! I don't make the rules, just enforce them with an iron fist. This does seen like an awful lot of discussion about one woman's endowments, but I guess tropers like to write about what appeals to them, right?
Buxom Is Better: "that large(r) breasts automatically make a woman more attractive;"; "This trope should only apply when it is explicitly stated within a story that a character is more attractive or benefits because of her large breasts". Tom is willing to put up with all of Shannon's scary-psycho craziness because her breasts are "sooooooo gooooooooood"
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Echo Chamber is seeking a spec script for Season Two. If you like the show, or if you think you can do better, then go for it.

Edited by Tanzmetall Hide / Show RepliesUh, I'll be at CMU this summer for the pre-college program so if you guys want I could whip up a script for Ascended Fanboy...
And if you don't exactly mind, I'm a decent actor and could probably play the aforementioned Fanboy >_>...
Shoot me a PM, and look through the thread I linked. Ascended Fanboy could work.
On a related note... There'll be auditions for a major role and a few minor roles in Season Two that are yet to be announced.
On a slightly less related note, Dana also did pre-college here.
Meaningless and pointless boast: I totally knew that episode 5 would be UST.
Edited by ssfsx17 Hide / Show RepliesAre we having a contest? I know what the next three are going to be.
Regulated fun - the best kind! I don't make the rules, just enforce them with an iron fist.I am wondering if there is a better way to organize the page (slightly different topic than the above, which is about the embedded youtube), it works alright now with only a handful of videos but once the number gets up higher it will be a rather complicated mess. I think it just feels a little redundant listing the individual episodes as a shorthand and then listing the tropes in each episode later on. Maybe move the episode list and embedded videos to trivia and let description point you there and the trope list redirect you to the actual youtube link, because the videos (and associated trope lists) are so short having them and the embedded videos side-by-side is information overload.
On a side note, I felt that the UST video was the series Growing the Beard, it may be an old standby for drama but it does do well in evolving the characters into more complex individuals (how a character reacts to embarrassment says a lot about them). I felt the other videos were clever but just didn't pop out due to some of the Cringe Comedy aspects, while for this trope it worked perfectly. I also have a fondness for Moment Killer (as I made the trope page) and got a good laugh from that.
What the heck happened to this show? It seemingly went on indefinite hiatus and then Personal Space happened instead apparently with no updates?
Tanzmetall seems to have vanished from the site too (and the Twitter on the troper page just redirects to Twitter's main page. Was that an alternate account? The account seemed to have been created solely to edit this page and barely edited the anything here at all even though according to him the show "is his love letter to this website", which really wouldn't make much sense if it wasn't an alternate account.
