Minor spoilers ahead, not sure about the spoiler policy for discussions. Anyway..
Is there a trope about when experience from a previous game (Enemy Unknown in this case) tips off a player to future events?
I can't be the only one who was clued in to the fact that there was a rank higher than Colonel because XCOM 2's Colonel icon was not the old skull and wreath from XCOM EU.
Hide / Show RepliesHold on. That's probably just Fridge Brillaince.
Damnit. Really wanted to put that on the Main Page, wonder if we still can somehow.
There's an important expansion pack out now : Alien Hunters, and it added some enemies. Someone should update the character page.
From the main description:
"Dissidents are made to disappear, soldiers are brainwashed and augmented beyond recognition, and only those on the fringes of society dare to think for themselves"
That's not what's actually going on, but the discovery that it's not augmentations at all (ADVENT soldiers are constructed from the ground up using "blank" clones and harvested genetic material) doesn't happen until roughly the mid-game point.
So...keep that in the description? Modify it?
Reality is for those who lack imagination. Hide / Show RepliesI'd argue that it still fits since that's the assumption made in-universe as well as out-of-universe (most pre-release speculation, which can still be found in some entries on the article, was that they were just quislings), and the fact that they're actually clones is something of The Reveal.
Xcom 2 fancomic in works
While it's early days and in time there will be good fanfic recommendations for xcom is this needing its own tropes or should we wait to see how it further develops? It's not bad read at moment.

Also is there a tropes for xcom resurrection?
So, is it "ADVENT" or "Advent"? Or is there some particular pattern of when to use one or the other? As far as I can tell, the game always capitalizes ADVENT — which means the pages should reflect that.
Edited by KillerClowns Hide / Show RepliesAgreed. In-game it's pretty much always all-caps.
Reality is for those who lack imagination.Done a massive text replacement of Advent to ADVENT for the main, nightmare fuel, and Character pages.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!- Alternate Universe: There are some subtle hints that the events of Enemy Unknown still occurred in an alternate universe, such as the portal in the Shadow Chamber showing the mothership from the end of Enemy Unknown, and an easily missed communication during the final level of XCOM 2 from the Uber Ethereal urging the commander to defeat the aliens like they had before.
Ok, here's the deal: All of this is easily explained without resorting to alternate realities (the mothership would obviously exist in the XCOM 2 timeline as well and that message to the commander more likely refers to their first defeat of humanity). I'd say that this is WMG material rather than something that should be on the main trope list, but I'd like to get some further opinions.
Reality is for those who lack imagination.So...about the Avenger and the Airborne Aircraft Carrier trope...does that actually apply? I mean, the Avenger only ever launches the Skyranger while on the ground somewhere...
Reality is for those who lack imagination. Hide / Show RepliesIt's not, it's just a Cool Starship due to the exact reasons you just mentioned

Yeah, if everyone could stop referring to the Commander as he/him by default, that would be great. You're alienating all the female/non-male fans of the game when you do that (since the Commander is a self-insert for the player). There are too many incidents for me to fix them all.
