Although I don't think it's as strict about this as on wikipedia, I think the talk page is mainly for discussing how to edit the page, not general discussion of the subject.
You could try the forums here on Tv T, though I would more recommend /r/splatoon on Reddit.
Between the first game and the Octo Expansion, I feel like we should make a page/folder for shout outs in the Splatoon series as a whole. I'm not sure which, it's midnight and I'm too sleep-deprived to make good choices.
So, to perhaps nip this in the bud: how precisely do we want to handle the trope listing for Octo Expansion? Should there just be a new header under the Splatoon 2 tropes and we go from there? Should OE gets its own *page*?
Hide / Show RepliesI would start with it just being a new header. Worry about it being split off once it starts accumulating enough tropes to warrant a split.
Yeah, I'd say just make a subsection on the main page, and split if it gets large enough.
Reaction Image RepositoryYou guys think that getting killed by a Smallfry in Salmon Run counts as Cherry Tapping?
Obscure? Random? Bombs? They're yours my friend, as long as you have enough tropies! CROSSWICK EVERYTHING!!!- Mythology Gag: With the obvious Super Mario Sunshine influences in Splatoon's overall development, it shouldn't be too surprising that the Inklings would get an ink version of the jetpack nozzle F.L.U.D.D. had.
It was stated in an Iwata Asks interview that the dev team completely forgot about Mario Sunshine. I put the entry here because the similarity to F.L.U.D.D. might be trope, but I don't feel like looking for it right now.
Hide / Show RepliesMaybe, but I think should be confirmed to be deliberate to count as a Shout-Out. I know a lot of times people guess due to similarities, but in this case they aren't similar enough to me.
Mythology Gag isn't the right trope either way, because that involves an installment in a franchise referencing another installment, and these games are part of separate series.
Edited by GastonRabbit Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. At the moment I've commented out this trope:
- Rainbow Pimp Gear: Actively Defied unlike the first game. It's been confirmed that abilities can be chosen completely separate from gear, so players can wear whatever they want without being at a disadvantage.
This was because I found an interview with Hisashi Nogami, one of the game's developers, on Nintendo Everything. The second question on the third page asked about new hairstyles/pants and this is what he had to say:
"The hair-styles and bottoms will be available to change, just like the skin color and eyes in the first game. They don’t affect your battle performance, they’re just extra ways to accent your style. On the other hand, headgear, clothing and shoes all have gear abilities."
Nogami's probably implying that the same system from Splatoon 1 (permanent main abilities attached to the three major types of gear) will be returning as well. Unless it's either a mistranslation—or Nogami's keeping surprises from us—some form of Rainbow Pimp Gear is still expected in the sequel. For now, I'm hiding the text until more information and/or the game comes out and we can fully confirm how gear will work this time.
"But the burning in your heart I did not put there...." - The Megas
Going by the 'two years ago' thing in the Agent 3 bonus boss fight and Cap'n Cuttlefish and Agent 3 having been on a research trip in singleplayer, theories I've seen are 'they were stuck underground for 2 years and the fight was before they entered the Metro' or 'it took place during/after the DJ Octavio fight in the first game.'
Any idea which is right?
