Needs more details to make sense as a stand-alone trope example.

  • Master of None: Lacking resistances to and being unable to deal elemental damage and status effects makes you very vulnerable to the later enemies.

How about something like this?-

Master of None: The Items you get from Kozma have an element of this as well as Jack of All Stats- They provide resistance to a common damage type and decent damage output, but lacking resistances to and being unable to deal elemental damage and status effects makes you very vulnerable to the later enemies.

As I stated in the history, Real Money Trade is not allowed. However, I don't know if there's a trope for an in-game market where you can trade for paid currency using regular in-game currency. If it exists that could be added in it's stead and if it isn't it should probably go to YKTTW.

You mean something like the reverse of Real Money Trade? Where you buy paid services with in-game money?

That would fit, too. But the thing with Real Money Trade is it's specifically buying currency from people other then the developers.

Honestly, I'd say alter the Real Money Trade trope. In Real Life it's generally called RMT even for games where it's legit.

I took out Adam Smith Hates Your Guts because the price of energy is purely set by the player market — it's not an artificial price the devs are enforcing. (It costs the same amount of cash as day 1.) The people complaining about it are ones who don't want to pay real money and basically want the devs to force players to undercharge for it.

Yep, the price is purely set by the players. It isn't arbitrarily controlled by the developers to be a certain amount.

Thus, I believe the trope, Can't Catch Up seems to be a more appropriate choice for the rising market prices for CE (Crystal Energy). This is because 3-star items require 100 Energy to be crafted. And 4-star items need (I think) 150 Energy, and so on. Moreover, a full set of 4-star gear is needed to access Tier 3. Therefore, without buying CE or getting these items from other players, free-players will be locked out of Tier 3.

The price is going to be in flux for a while since the game is new — it was artificially low at the beginning. Also, free players could buy equipment rather than synthesizing it themselves. There usually plenty of people selling in town. It's really too early to make that kind of judgement yet, after a few months things will stabilize.

I just started playing and the price around 3k per 100. I'm fairly sure that if you just use your mist and save up your crystal energy it would be possible to get into tier 3, though. Don't quote me on that.

On-topic, it makes sense. And this thread is old so I don't know why I'm posting >_>

The recent addition of a new bundle pack and countless steam players has dropped the price on CE down a... bit. Was 7k a week ago. And yep. As long as paying players are selling CE (which is reliably true so far), it is entirely possible for a player to not spend hard-earned crowns on CE for the purpose of wasting said CE on earning back fewer crowns than were spent, and instead save said crowns for purchasing CE when they need to craft a higher star item.

"but energy can be purchased for real money (or from other players for in-game currency) for extended play and to access premium content." Is it really "premium content" if there is an in-game mechanism that allows anyone playing any reasonable amount to acquire it for free? I'll admit that I'm not terribly familiar with the connotations of "premium", so this is more a question of curiosity than accusatory.

There are things you can only get with crystal energy (because they cost more than 100 energy) such as additional trinket slots. These cant be bought from other players.

So far as I'm aware, "premium content" implies that one needs to pay money (or other real-world value) in order to realistically acquire it. No content in the game of which I am aware fits that.
Granted, with the exception of the now-added exception of Rose Regalia costumes, which very, very few non-paying players are going to have, as the paying players that do have them aren't going to be selling them often or cheaply, and they're a limited-time promo deal.

Well, the thing is, since you have to use crystal energy for these items, SOMEONE paid real money for it, since that's how crystal energy gets created. It just may not have been you. Actually, though, I admit that's not quite the correct term since "content" implies playable areas, I clarified it a bit.
