Considering the changes in main gameplay (such as no wild Pokémon battles), I think these games are just spin-offs that take place in Kanto rather being mainline series games.
I mean, if this tweet is any indication, they don’t seem to be core Pokémon games. Otherwise, they would say “another” rather than “all-new”.
Ryoko. Hide / Show RepliesListening to the full press conference, these games are referred to as "new mainline" installments on a least two separate instances. Game Freak seems to be using "core" as a way to distinguish gameplay style (the causal, hybrid style of Let's Go vs. the traditional RPG style of past games) more so than denoting main series vs. spin-off status. As such, I think the current categorization of it as a mainline Gen VII game is perfectly fine. This also puts us in line with both Serebii (the biggest Pokémon fansite in the West) and Bulbapedia (the Pokemon Wikia), which both label the titles as mainline entries.
Edited by RacattackForceCan you be sure that the "Special Pokemon" is an early bird cameo for Gen VIII? "Never before seen" could very easily mean something like Pikachu wearing a new hat or something that doesn't count as "entirely new".
Edited by PDL Hide / Show RepliesWhile I think it’s a safe assumption that it’ll be an all-new Pokémon and a Gen 8 tease, I still don’t think we should be putting any assumptions on this page. We should wait until we have more information before we add tropes like Early-Bird Cameo.

Since USUM and LGPE have their own pages, should all third versions and remakes have their own pages too, or should we combine USUM and LGPE back to their respective mainline games?
