Is there some trope that would cover the fact that the VS often appear much less heavily armoured than the other two factions; especially the MAX Suits, which from a distance can actually be mistaken for regular infantry, due to simply being a reinforced body suit, as opposed to heavy armoured plating.
Hide / Show RepliesDoesn't seem like a trope to me, but you can ask in the Trope Finder.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman"The Phoenix Rocket Launcher that the NC has in Planet Side 2 has a camera-guided missile that can be controlled in mid-flight. Unfortunately, it has very limited range, low damage, and the person firing it is a sitting duck while controlling the missile."
I removed this line because the phoenix is actually usefull. While having a range cap of three hundred meters is a drawback, the other two contentions do not hold up. While the phoenix does have low up-front damage, it gets a huge bonus to damage against tanks and aircraft (its intended target), making it the second most damaging rocket launcher. Furthermore, the phoenix is intended to be used from behind cover so that the enemy cannon retaliate.
I propose we split this article into Planet Side 1 and Planet Side 2. The second may be a reimagining of the first, but they still take place in different continuities and the gameplay is different enough between the two that a lot of tropes in one don't apply to the other. I mean, I've been playing PlanetSide 2 for the past few weeks now and a lot of the tropes on this page that apparently apply to the first game seem really unfamiliar to me.
I mean, c'mon: we split the articles for the Left 4 Dead games - which I'm still against, honestly.
Hide / Show RepliesAgreed. While Planetside 2 may be mostly a remake, it's definitely very, very different in the details - PS 2 has a completely different leveling system, certain new tropes apply to it that don't apply to PS 1 and vice versa.
Even the feels for each faction are different - Vanu is less focused on special attacks and that armor piercing ability (which doesn't even seem to be present... can't tell) by a lot. Instead, they rely on weapons with little-to-no travel time and bullet drop, absurdly tough main battle tanks, and quick reloads.
So, uh, how about them Giants? Which ones? ...Does it matter?I agree as well. I'm going to begin working on the Planetside 2 page. If I can get some assistance in moving the examples for PS 2 already listed here to that page it would be much appreciated.
Or... somebody could come along and delete the entire thing. So much for that.
Evidently, my cautioning in the cut request was no heeded. I would suggest to restart the page from scratch.

Small discrepancy under Short Range Shotgun — the Jackhammer is listed as both an example /and/ a subversion; a dedicated player will need to test this, I don't play personally.
