Should we start considering locking up the page agan seeing as how people are really convinced on making the game sound far worse than it actually is?
Edited by 70.33.253.43 Hide / Show RepliesWhat do you mean, in particular?
In any case... no. There haven't been many edits of late, and those that I'm seeing definitely don't warrant locking.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Come on why isn't Chickification even mentioned the next game will reduce her character even further and it would be the end of the series.
Hide / Show RepliesIs that one missile expansion mentioned in Lost Forever really gone after the avalanche? because if you go back into the room to see it's filled with snow, you can look up in first person and see a grapple point that lets you get on top, right where that platform is.
Now I got it the first time so I'm asking those that didn't, did it just glitch out of existance or did the person who edited Lost Forever just not take the time to look up?
Alright, so somebody wants to keep the collective Badass entries as Main Page fact. I'm gonna keep it in YMMV until things get sorted out. Feel free to state your case here, if you still want to keep them as Main Page.
Hide / Show RepliesI eliminated "Badass Crew", as the crew from the game does not fit the description. No, Lyle is not a badass, nor is KG a badass, nor is James a badass, nor is Maurice a badass. One's a trigger-happy muaveshirt who got a bridge dropped on him, one's a guy with two lines of dialogue, one's a dirty traitor, and the other... I can't really even remember anything about Maurice to be honest.
Sure, Adam and Anthony count, but in a badass crew, all or most of the members are badasses.
There's also none of the comradie that accompanies a badass crew.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.And that's a stupid direction to take, because they don't do anything badass.
Square Peg Round Trope, you know?
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.Really, as good as the game is, it would've been much, much better if Samus' voice actress could actually fucking EMOTE.
Seriously, whoever hired that chick instead of Jennifer Hale needs to be punched in the face, at least.
Hide / Show RepliesGood to know.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order. To my knowledge, she acted exactly how the director wanted her to act.
The Japanese version featured slightly more expressive voice-acting on Samus' part. Whether this was due to translation problems in directing and script, or due to a superior voice actress, is unknown.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.Considering the issues with this game, Jennifer Hale was better off NOT being in it. Does anyone know if she turned down the job (which would be awesome for even the original voice actress to take issue with this game) or if she was even contacted for it?
The hell you smoking?
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.I took the un-emotive voice acting to be her telling the story later, and deliberately trying to keep her emotions out of it, and according to an interview with the voice actress, that's what they were going for.
In the "present" on the ship, she's perfectly capable of emoting, it's only in the narration (which, remember, is narration of something that's probably pretty damn sad for her personally) that she's not getting worked up.
I still have plenty of hate for this game if the opportunity arises :-)
Edited by EmperorZPlease don't. Whining about a game you don't like is not what this site is for.
How about locking the page for another week or so. It seems that there are still people more than happy to rant about the game.
Hide / Show RepliesActually, it seems like things have FINALLY calmed down to manageable levels. There will always be haters, though. Same for any trope page about a...divisive work like this.
Shamelessly plugging my comics, Oh yes.Hey, why is Adam counted as an Ensemble Dark Horse? From what I've seen, the fans hate him for the authorization mechanic or his relationship with Samus (Which is weird, since back in Fusion he WAS an Ensemble Dark Horse). He's certainly not a minor character.
Either way, Adam and MB should probably not be counted as Ensemble Darkhorses, since one is the most important character besides Samus, and the other is the main catalyst for the plot.
Anthony could probably be counted as one, however.
Edited by Scardoll Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE. Hide / Show RepliesAgreed. At best fans love or hate Adam, and at worst he's The Scrappy. Anthony would count tho'.
Okay seriously guys, why do we have a WMG page and a characters page now (I can understand the Just Bugs Me page because this game Just Bugs a lot of people) I think we should keep one characters page as one for the metroid series as a whole and maybe split up the WMG pages for "Metroid" and "Metroid Prime" (considering how many people take Sakamoto as saying it's discontinuity, and even if it's not, it really didn't have much of an effect on anything else as phazon shows up in the first, dies in the last, and doesn't make a difference afterwards.) but a different WMG and Character pages for Other M and the main Metroid series (which it is explicitly designed to tie into,) seems really dumb.
Edited by 76.4.4.167 Hide / Show RepliesI agree on the characters page, since the Metroid Characters page already covers the important character in Other M, but I don't really see a problem with a WMG page, since it helps to keep things in their place.
My troper wallWell it's not like there's a lot to Wild Mass Guess on for Other M, as it's explicitly designed to fit into the rest of the main Metroid series. Prime on the other hand, as either a "What If" scenario or a side story with it's own plot (and a recurring plot element, big bad and various characters that will likely never appear again, but are very mysterious and easy to speculate on,) might require it's own WMG page because of it's Self-contained nature.
Could someone delete the Crowning moment of Awesome Page now? Because Adam didn't authorise it.
Yeah...let's not unilaterally delete everything off a page, shall we?
My troper wallOkay, point taken, but there is no reason for that page when there's already a page for Metroid CMO As, so if someone with actuall power or authority could get rid of it, that'd be swell.
Sakamoto has made it clear that the Prime series is canon and has gone so far as to fix some of the problems that were cased by the trilogy's extremely bad writing.
Y'know, fellas, maybe this page should be locked for a couple weeks until things cool off. As it stands, it will likely be reduced to a pit of natter and complaining.
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows. Hide / Show RepliesWell if it means anything, I just undid a rabid Fan Hater's edit. :/
Shamelessly plugging my comics, Oh yes.Edits like that are exactly what I'm referring to. And with the game's (American) release tomorrow, I foresee many more edits like that in the near future.
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows. We will whether the storm.
WE MUST. WE MUST HOLD THE LINE AGAINST THE HATETARDS. THE SANCTITY OF THIS WIKI DEPENDS ON IT.
Shamelessly plugging my comics, Oh yes.I agree. Locking the page is a last resort- it prevents the spread of Wiki Magic. If a dutiful Page Guardian can keep the page from turning into a mess, we'll all be better off. Don't go running to the mods for help unless you have to.
See you in the discussion pages. You anti-"hatetards" have biases of your own you need to keep in check. This game has many obvious negative tropes that need to be addressed. I'm neutral until tomorrow, though.
Pie Sniper, we're not here to make a hate page for one side of a conflict. We're just trying to document the tropes this game has, good or bad, without leaning one way or another. If you want to discuss your take on it, please take it to a forum or something. For the record, I hate what this game did to Samus. I'm just doing my best to be civil about it. If I can, you can too.
It's one thing to address negative aspects of a given work, it's another think to hop on your soapbox and go off on a silly tangent about whatever you hate about said given work. The former's acceptable, the latter is not, and - let's be honest, here - most people are more likely to do the latter than the former.
While in retrospect, I do believe this page should not be locked, some form of page guarding will be pretty much required for the coming weeks, especially with this game's apparent Love It or Hate It reception.
Edited by Komodin Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.Mysterious IP guy, what you said is the point I was making. I'm seeing some edits try and gloss over the more negative aspects.
Cant they just make a IJBM if they want to start constructive criticism?
With the amount of criticism this game is garnering, I'd say a separate IJBM is in order, just so that the main Metroid page's IJBM doesn't get overrun with complaints about the new game, whether they be justifiable complaints or not.
(´・ω・`)I actually, so far, pretty much like this game. The enlarged lady bits on Samus are annoying, and I doubt ANYONE enjoys this "Concentration" nonsense, but damn, the story freaking rocks. ...So far.
Concentration doesn't bug me overmuch (and I'm close enough to the end that I could care less about spoilers), but the forced first person segments are hair pulling at times.
My troper wallOooh, but wow does it jump the shark when you-know-who shows up. Then you realize, "WHAT!? It's almost over!?" Guess I'll just have to see what I think once I finish it.
I dunno, I'd say the freakout was justified, given the amount of overkill that was thrown at you-know-who back in Super. Maybe not to the degree that was shown, but it'd still be worthy of a OMGWTF?! sort of moment.
Edited by shadowwolf75How, the people freaking out think that the Samus that existed in their head was the canon Samus and *****ing up a storm because Sakamoto doesn't agree.
Was referring to Samus' in-game freaking out at the sight of Ridley . . .
Late to teh party I know but:
Well, last time Samus canonically saw Ridley, she blew him to bits and his remains were on planet Zebes, which, you know, exploded at the end of the game, which should preclude any chance of him returning. Seeing a creature like him somhow not only back from the dead even when its corpse was atomised by a supernova (Even if it was a clone, samus probably didn' tknow that at that point) would really bowl people over, so I can say that I can kinda see why Samus freaked out.
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowHowever, even if Samus did believe Ridley was truly dead, paralyzing fear does not seem like the right reaction to seeing him again. Rage is likely, despair could work too, but such a strong fear reaction should not come from seeing a creature that you've fought 3-6 times in the past.
On the other hand, I will acknowledge that the human mind is a complex thing, and unexpected reactions can occur from time to time, so Samus's fear can be justified, IF it is somehow important to the story/character. But looking around, it seems that many people hated her reaction, others feel the hate is overblown, but few seem to actually like Samus's characterization.
There's no good excuse I can see for Samus's freakout. The reasoning behind it is flimsy, and it did little but make Samus seem less likable and far weaker than an experienced warrior should be
But you're wrong. She didn't think Ridley was dead, she knows that he is. One of the main points of the game is that all of Samus' repressed emotions and trauma are coming back to the suffice. In other words, the sight of the Ridley clone was making her relive the event where she lost her family.
The Fan Dumb entry on this page I really don't get. Needs a source. I've played all the other games, and not once have I seen a beauty mark or any signs of THAT LEVEL of insecurity.
Hide / Show RepliesThe Fan Dumb bit is still insanely biased and probably just shouldn't be there.
You obviously haven't seen the message boards... Thank god you haven't yet.
Nitpick, but Samus in Prime didn't have a beauty mark. Watch the ending cutscene again.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.Why don't you look at Prime's concept art and the interviews about it that have been around years.
Is there any real reason why Other M has its own CMOA page? Seeing as Metroid Prime has its own examples on the same CMOA page as the rest of the games, and seeing as there are already Other M examples there as well, giving Other M its own CMOA page seems a bit redundant.
Hide / Show RepliesWiki formatting automatically creates these icons for works pages, so even if they were deleted someone would likely start it up again. Nothing much to be done but go with the flow and put awesome moments on the most specific page available.
See you in the discussion pages.Phantoon? How can Phantoon be That One Boss? Phantoon blew me away... with how INCREDIBLY easy he was. To use Concentration, you just run into a corner, blast all nearby lackeys, go back to easily destroying his ass. I mean you may not even NEED to use Concentration.
Hide / Show RepliesThat One Boss is pretty subjective. Personally, I found Phantoon to be of average difficulty, but the lift miniboss was hell for me. I do know of a few who found the lift miniboss to be easy, and would disagree with it being that one boss.
My troper wallI never had much trouble with Phantoon either; I never had to use Concentration and I only had 53% item completion. But like Acebrock said, it's a pretty subjective trope. If enough people found Phantoon to be a monster (and to be fair, he does attack spam constantly and in a wide area, something that no other boss in the game does), I can understand calling him That One Boss.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Well, Phantoon's technically a Bonus Boss, so that's why I deleted the entry for him. That, and it is a subjective trope.
Might just be me but I noticed a few people whining about how when Adam shot Sam in the back, she barely batted an eyelid.
I watched said cutscene in question and you know, there is a bit where she does ask "Then why did you shoot me?!" Sure its not calling out Adam for doing what he did but at least she's acknowledging how she wasn't that fond of getting shot. Did they actually watch the same cutscene or are they pretending she never says such a line?
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you know Hide / Show RepliesThey're not pretending anything. Adam never gives a straight answer and Samus just lets him drop the subject. She asks the question, but is perfectly fine with never knowing why he needlessly and recklessly endangered her life with a metroid less than a couple feet away from her face.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Childish Edit War is childish. Fucking Stop.
Somehow you know that the time is right. Hide / Show RepliesLOL this game.
Such a dumb game to fight over. It's way short, has no multiple endings, and clearly needed more time in development. I say, wait for the next game, then bitch if they screw THAT up, too. I'm just chalking it up to, "Knocks it down a peg, now I like Kingdom Hearts better." Big deal.
Not a terrible game, mind you, but way too damn short for a $50 game.
So it's funny people are fighting a game over you think isn't worth it?
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.I don't get the Hilarious inHindsight entry that seems to compare the game to Halo:Reach. I don't know how long these games were in development, or understand how it's hilarious, but since Reach came out like a month later if this entry is necessary it should probably go over there.
I know I should not listen to viewer bases, but all the bitching that Samus got development has pretty much made me not want to play this game now.
Hide / Show RepliesMakes me REALLY want to play it. Out of sheer curiosity.
I may end up in tears over what they've done, though.
Yeah, her development annoyed me to tears.
Baby.
Barely an admirable figure.I loved the game and I think they did a good job on her characterization. They made her into an actual character instead of an orange robot with breasts. So what if she acts feminine? SHE'S A WOMAN! Saying that female thoughts and emotions and actions don't belong in gaming is just as bad to me as saying that females don't belong in gaming. I think that making her more sensitive actually made her more badass, since now we know that even though she has such a harsh life and so many emotional problems, she still kicks all kind of ass and has more motivation for her actions than "I was just stopping by." All the whining about her character really pisses me off.
Eh, it's all right. They took it just a bit too far, particularly with MB AND ESPECIALLY Ridley. Really really hit and miss.
Alright, let's hash out the point under character development or character derailment here, instead of constantly reverting each other's edits. Better for everyone that way. And, for the record, I only reverted the edit, because I wanted to get both parties to talk it out here.
Edited by Acebrock My troper wall Hide / Show RepliesBlaming the controversy over Samus' characterization on people having a prior "fanon" idea about Samus' characterization is a rhetorical move almost always used to disparage critics of Other M, implying that they're only upset that their "fanfic" version of Samus wasn't canonized (rather than because they think the new characterization is simply bad, regardless of whether it jives with previous canon). My edit stated that that Other M's characterization can't be called a retcon as there was very little previous characterization to contradict - which is just a neutral way of restating the current, biased "it's all fanon" explanation.
That said, I think the whole issue is sufficiently self-explanatory that the point doesn't really need elaboration at all. But if there's going to be a "to elaborate" section, it certainly shouldn't be taking the "to elaborate, some people are butthurt because their fanfic wasn't turned into canon" approach.
Yeah, would probably be better to just axe ANY sort of comment other than the 'you decide' part. I'll go make that edit right now, if nobody's editing the page already.
Edited by shadowwolf75Or we could always go with the fact that her character was done in the same vain as the beta manga which Sakamoto worked on.
The reviews are coming out today, and there is, supposedly a lot of leaked info on Game Faqs, but just to be on the safe side, let's avoid spoilers (from leaked copies) and any comments about reviews until the game actually comes out. I don't think it's a good idea to risk pissing anyone off, for whatevder reason
My troper wall Hide / Show RepliesSounds like a good idea to me. I'm probably going to remove this page from my watchlist anyway, just in case. Too much temptation.
Best way to look at Other M is that she was bored with being so badass, so she wanted a Self-Imposed Challenge.
Edited by 173.237.102.204 Thus speaks the Omega Metroid! ...Or something like that.
