Is the Final Fantasy series still that popular? The running gag is starting to seem a little weird - the series isn't hated, but most modern installments are Base Breakers and not particularly popular relative to eg. Persona or the Elder Scrolls or most other big-name RPG series. It feels like it's describing what the series was like in the 90's, rather than today.

It just feels weird having a running gag about how popular a series is for a series that hasn't had an unambiguously well-recieved entry in like 20 years, outside of maybe some of the later Final Fantasy 14 chapters. Maybe we should let it rest for 16; running gags aren't inherently funny.

Well, the objective answer is: yes, the series is still that popular. Heck, right now, it's more well-known, financially successful, and widely-regarded than it ever was pre-FFVII, so if we're judging popularity by that metric, there's no doubt.

The games may be more divisive these days, but divisiveness has nothing to do with popularity. "Popular" does not mean "overwhelming approval". And even if it did, FFXV, the FFVII remake and especially post-ARR FFXIV have basically resuscitated the series' approval.

That all being said, if you want to argue that the running gag detracts from the articles, you can certainly do that (although I suggest doing so on the forums or at the least, the main FF series franchise page). However, that argument doesn't have a leg to stand on if its "popularity" is your objection.

I've a question: Why are we keeping Kingsglaive and FF 15 character sheets separate? The whole thing is a universe - it's even called that! And there's more than enough of a crossover between characters and mediums that it renders what we have right now inaccurate and kind of moot.

I mean, if we're going by where/when they debuted....then technically, guys like Cid and Weskham belong in A King's Tale character sheet! But they don't because it's silly.

So, I'm suggesting we do with it what we basically have with Star Wars - put ALL the characters in whatever respective faction pages they belong in, while we make individual character entry pages, like Kinsglaive, act as indexes. It works wonders for the Star Wars and Marvel Cinematic Universe pages because it's neat, tidy and accurate.

If I don't see any responses to this in like a couple of days, I'll just assume it's not a problem. Mind you, I won't be deleting anything - just moving it around.

Okay then, since no one is voicing any objections I'll start implementing it tomorrow.

Kings Glaive should probably have it's own dedicated trope page. It is pinned as a film you can watch stand alone and the pretty comparable Advent Children has its own page.

I agree, this page is going to be a mess when the game actually comes out if all the references to Kingsglaive don't at least get their own folder.

I would support this too and also a have a sepperate page for Brotherhood before it gets too big

Agree. Kingsglaive on its own is starting to amass loads of tropes. Anime.Kingsglaive Final Fantasy XV it is.

All right, everyone. I may be a bit late to the discussion, but I've created the dedicated page for Kingsglaive. Although I admit that I do make some mistakes when posting Zero Context Examples with regards to that film, I migrated nearly all of the Kingsglaive-related tropes from the main page. Please add further tropes pertaining to the film there. Thanks.

Now that the game is out, I've been wondering what we should do about the spoilers for Kingsglaive since they are integral to the game as well as Brotherhood.

Also, Square Enix released a novel which covers the prologue before the game begins. Thoughts?

Just curious but where is the source that XV is no longer part of the Fabula Nova Crystallsis? This is the only place I have seen that has mentioned the removal of those elements.

I tried not to write that while fixing wicks, although I suppose the trailer mentioning the game being "a world in the Versus epic" might be what people are going off of; we're assuming that the game is a part of a new "Versus" compilation (or whatever Square decides to do with "Versus"). Though yeah, I personally haven't read anything confirming or denying its still being a part of Fabula Nova.

I believe it still is considering the words "Fabula Nova Crystallis" (sorry for spelling, I'm on a smartphone) appear at the beginning of the new trailer. They're faint but they are there. Etro and all of those myths are part of FNC right and not exclusive to the XIII titles? That's probably where people are confused.

Yeah it doesn't really discount that its a part of the Fabula Nova Crystallsis after all XIII is a trilogy in the same compilation but if there was nothing saying it is no longer a part I think its definitely jumping the gun to remove them.

Yes they are all part of the same mythology with Etro, Pulse, Linzei and Bhuvelize(Sp?) but all have different stories based on the same mythology much like the elemental crystals like the old game.

Rewatched it, and you're totally right, Ranbu. I fixed most of the wicks where I implied it was no longer a part of it, but there's still a few(?)/a number(?) of examples around the site that were hugely changed because of the confusion. I might go over some of them tomorrow, but if anyone else wants to take a gander, go ahead (I'm thinking basically copy paste the deleted example back on and add something new about despite FF XV becoming part of the main series, it still has to do with the Fabula Nova project).

Then I suppose it's ok to put everything about Etro back in too. I noticed while looking through the history for the page someone removed anything about Etro from the page.

Since Stella still talks about her in the 2011 trailer (in the subtitles), I'd say yeah. I kind of like the current description, though; feels more summarized.

Edit: never mind, I reworded the Stella and Etro part and put it back in.

Nomura's interviews at E3 stated that it's still the same story meaning that anything that we knew before is still there. EVERYTHING removed because it was thought to be gone from the game needs to be put back in unless it's about, for example, something like the HUD which seems to have gotten a change in appearance like how they got rid of the characters portraits next to the health bars (don't know if there was actually anything about that on the trope page or other pages, just thought I'd use that as an example).

Done. The Etro stuff was actually a part of the first few edits, so copy-pasted edits.

I kinda reverted to your stuff totlmstr, Hopeless Osaka D's edit appeared to contradict the whole Noctis and Stella children scene in the newest trailer.

But does anyone have the actual source of Nomura's interview? I just want to be clear, since some of the assumptions made about the last versus XIII trailer seemed to be proved wrong by new XV one. (the Stella-Noctis relationship, the endless night thing, etc) Things do change over development.

Most of them are from Famitsu, so you're not going to find a direct interview transcript and more of summaries of it if there was one at all (talking about the interview, it may have just been an article). An extremely reliable, albeit fan run, Final Fantasy news site is www.finalfantasy.net (probably worth noting that they have been given beta keys by Square Enix to give away for Final Fantasy XIV, so Sqaure Enix trusts them, and the articles usually have links to the source or embed the video that has the information in the article). The Square Enix Presents channel on You Tube is also putting a lot of this information up in the form of videos from E3 which are usually interviews of some-sort (could just be someone talking into the camera) with the directors/producers/executives/whatever you want to call them, at Square Enix. For finalfantasy.net just go to the coverage area on the right side and click on "Final Fantasy XV", that will show you just articles about XV. You could also search the plethora of articles on IGN or other, I guess, official gaming news sites for information.

Just a few hours ago, early copies of the game were shipped ahead of its actual release date per this source. I think we will try to avoid adding any early-bird spoilers until then. Thoughts?

With the game being released very soon, I think that there are obviously going to be major spoilers for the game and possibly a Never Trust a Trailer entry if the game turns out to be different from the trailers. We also need to avoid early bird spoilers until November 29. Also, I think we should add some of the spoilers in the game to the Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV page when the time comes.

Any thoughts about that?

There are a lot of spoiler tags, but the game doesn't even have a official release date. Are the spoilers for the other games in the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy series?

Some of it, at least, is due to the Duscae demo, and the Duscae demo is structured in such a way that it does drop a few "reveals" on the player late that are clearly meant to be spoilers/teasers and seem like they'll be spoilers for the full game. Once the game comes out, they can be re-evaluated.

So, uh.

Brotherhood.

Should Brotherhood tropes go on the main game page, since it'll be a kind of short miniseries all told (and ties in tightly to game content), or should they go on a dedicated page?

What do y'all think?

Would it count as a crowning moment of awesome that a sequence shown way, way, way back when Versus XIII was originally announced - a cutscene - was shown to be playable at E3 2013? Considering it's full of crazy action normally reserved for your typical cutscene-power-to-the-max, no-direct-control FMV, the fact that it's a guy hitting buttons and making Noctis do that is pretty damn impressive, right?
