Is there a trope for how battles are skipped if the party is strong enough to beat them easily? I couldn't find it on the trope pages and if any game besides Earthbound has done it, I would like to know of it.

Am I the only one who can't help but snicker whenever I hear someone call Earthbound an obscure video game now a days?
I mean, I'm not bashing, it's one of my favorite games of all time, but seriously... are there really people out there who still haven't heard of it with how much it's fandom talks about it and brings it up every chance they get? Whenever I hear Earthbound called obscure, all I can think is "It's the greatest obscure game everyone has heard of!" :P

What game mechanics, if any, make instant death possible with these games? Please be specific. For example weapons, hit locations, critical damage, direct one shot one kill weapons (like the Golden Gun in GoldenEye)
Does an Instant Death Bullet Occur in cut scenes, gameplay, or anywhere else in the game?
- Averted in the games Earthbound and Mother 3, characters don't fall down from lethal damage immediately. It takes time for their health to tick down to zero, meaning that it is possible to save a lethally-wounded character by healing them or winning the encounter before their health hits zero. To make it match the trope even further, a few of the enemies do in fact use guns.
- Played straight in the original Mother.
