How come no one has established an Awesome Moments section for this page yet?

My excuse? Simple laziness hoping someone else would do it first. ^_^

Where on Earth does this idea that Bayonetta's contract is expiring come from? She channels magic through the Umbran Watch, and Singularity damages it, and she continues using magic anyway. It breaks because she pushes Gomorrah to overpower Singularity. It's nothing to do with her contract running out - Rodin explicitly says Umbran Watches keep witches alive for eternities in Bayonetta 2.

I'm only in chapter 5 so I can't answer with the full game in mind yet, and at the very least Rodin said nothing early about Bayonetta's contract coming due. That said, already I did see a scene with Singularity stating cryptically that the Bayonetta of Bayonetta 3 is a woman "out of time" and she agrees, noting she cannot waste what she has.

Bayonetta was born over 600 years ago, and Singularity is actively invading her world to destroy it. It's infinitely more likely that they're talking about either of those, than speaking vaguely about a concept that's not mentioned before or after the scene, and doesn't play into the ending at all.

If so, it certainly wouldn't be the first time a bit of supposed lore found its way into the tropes early after a game's release only to be revealed later to have been made up or misunderstood. I'd like input from the people who first added this info though.

We might need to edit/remove too the references to the ending supposedly implying that Bayonetta now works as Madama Butterfly's enforcer. Maybe this is indicated in another scene, and it is a reasonable enough theory as to how Madama Butterfly might treat her, but from what I can see all the ending indicates is that Luka (and therefore probably Bayonetta) are okay enough in Inferno that they can use Rodin as a go-between to keep tabs on Viola.

I'm also not sure where people are getting this from.

Given no one has yet provided more evidence, I'll be editing and commenting out references to the contract expiring. If the info turns out to be true then it can be reversed, and if it's just fake lore spread form a misunderstanding, perhaps this will help stem the tide. I still find Bayonetta's response to Singularity talking about her being out of time to sound like she was talking about not having much time left (when without her response one could argue he was talking about her being born in another time period), but we probably need more than that to outright say that the contracts have deadlines.
