The flamethrower isn't really as useful as people seem to be making it out to be. Yes, when it comes to efficiently dispatching large numbers of aliens it is impressive, but when it comes to actually KILLING them quickly, its one of the worst weapons. The aliens may be slowed down but they can still attack and kill during the appreciable time it takes for them to burn to death. Whereas a simple properly handled assault rifle will rapidly put down a decent number of aliens before they can do any harm. Sometimes you really just cant afford to wait for the buggers to burn to death on their own. An individual flamethrower user can be an excellent asset to the team. 4 of them, however, is just asking to get stomped.
