For what it's worth, I agree with you. There's no hypocrisy here unless these hypothetical parents were teen smokers and see nothing wrong with what they did.
But I'm not sure why we have all these pages full of general examples to begin with...

It's there because these tropes happen in real life. That's why there are general examples.

Except the wiki isn't supposed to have general examples, per How to Write an Example. I wasn't aware of an exception for real life cases.

Whoever keeps on putting back the smoking example for the Parental Hypocrisy trope is wrong, because teenagers are too young to smoke and they should be 18. They shouldn't be smoking, so parents are right to criticise them for it.
