I agree. I think we should make a new page for the Post-Clarkson version of the show. It's different enough to warrant it, in my opinion.
The 2002 incarnation has just so many tropes associated with it that anything we add now for the revamp will just get lost.
Anyone else think we should?
The show hosts jabs at Americans are mostly in good humor and with them being aware of it being bigotry.
The people making comments about America on these pages are NOT. It's offensive and ignorant and really gives Brits a bad name, so really learn what the hell you are talking about before you presume to declare what America is.
Now that the Character page is cleaned-up, do we really need the presenter profiles on the front page as well, especially as they're pretty much word for word the same? It's a bit redundant. If we want to keep some manner of profile there, it should probably be scaled down greatly.
Hide / Show RepliesOkay, just moved all of the remaining info to the character page, and scaled down the rest so it's just about UK Top Gear. Still not happy with the formatting, but it's not as unsorted as it was before.
How did they sue the publishers of top gear (The game.(That you lost.)) if it came first?
Cake! Hide / Show RepliesTop Gear the TV show started in 1977. The game came in 1992.
Remember that the current TV series is a revival of sorts; it got reformatted to its more comedic style in 2002, but it was running well before that as an actual car review show.
So: shall we have seperate pages for Top Gear Australia and Top Gear the-US-one? And what should the latter page be called, being as the History Channel opted for the straight-out namespace collision option?
Hide / Show RepliesSeparate pages: I'm passionately neutral about the option. Mostly because I'm enthusiastically unimpressed with the American Top Gear
Namespace collision: I'd go for the same convention as The Other Wiki, and make the title Top Gear (US) or similar. But since I'm passionately neutral about the very necessity for a separate page about that show, I won't be starting that page. Whoever creates it will, by default, get to solve the name duplication problem to his/her own liking.
Veni. Vidi. Vamoose.Considering that the US show is now in its second season, I think it's worth starting its own page.
Someone's starting to add tropes here and characters (on the Character page) from Top Gear USA (is that the title? I really don't know or much care...) here. Well past time to start splitting these pages, methinks. Those of you who watch the show, that is; I refuse to. :-)
(At least clean up the character page; it looks fugly with Foust, Wood, and Ferrara just tacked at the end like they arrived late to the party...)
Edited by benteen Veni. Vidi. Vamoose.I've gone ahead and started the page for the US show. It has its own character page and several tropes already listed, though I've really only taken the stuff listed on the British show's page and transplanted it. If anyone else wants to pore through the tropes listed here and pick out which ones also apply to the US show, be my guest.
Moved this to thread above...
Edited by benteen Veni. Vidi. Vamoose. The opening blurb says "see You Tube below," but I don't see You Tube below and neither does Ctrl+F. Since I don't know jack about Top Gear (other than the unrelated SNES game), I don't know what to put there.
Hide / Show RepliesI searched the history - the heading got deleted for not being a trope. Line edited.
This is a common problem in a lot of articles here. I try to clean up such goofs as my Real Life allows and as I stumble upon them. Best not to stress about it and just correct such issues as you find them. Simple problem, simple solution.
Veni. Vidi. Vamoose. My Country Right Or Wrong: yes, they do it on the show, usually tongue in cheek. But why slag the Range Rover in the text? As far as I know the comment is untrue, and at best it's one tropers opinion.
The photo - basically I was thinking can we change the image to a more recent one (that maybe includes the stig?) and the text below it to 'How hard can it be' or 'Ambitious but rubbish' as i don't think the current image fits the tone, mood and hillarity of top gear too well.
Hide / Show RepliesI vote in favor - I'll keep my eyes peeled for good screencaps as I rewatch the episodes.
This one, maybe?
I also propose we pick another page quote, if we're not letting each presenter have his own.

Edited by CharisetPage quote changed, and Hammond's moved to Quotes Wiki with context. I don't know which episodes the other two were in, though - their texts, for the record:
- "Diesel, it says three things about you: one is, you're tighter than two coats of paint, the second one is that you care so much about the environment that you want to leave a little protective sooty film over it, and the third one is, you're probably French."— James May"You listen to this chap, he wants to bitch-slap his ho. Why not? Good luck to you, fella."— Jeremy Clarkson listens to Radio One in a Jaguar
The Clarkson quotation is from Series 2 episode 4 (drive a Jaguar XJR until you get bored). The May one is from the news segment of a Series 2 or 3 episode when one of the other two praised a diesel car.

I think this one looks fairly good (11x04, the news) - I've reduced it to 288 pixels wide:
I like the one we have, too, actually - we should have some kind of vote about changing it, I guess.
Compromise: Leave the current picture and put up individual images in the Characters page?

Alright, so... here comes the awkward bit.
The show is still there, obviously, but it looks like we have a new incarnation on its way. So, what do we need to do with the pages? Should we keep Top Gear unified, but maybe add the tropes and characters from new edition to their own separate trope pages, or would this warrant a new split entirely? Is there a precedent for this on TV Tropes already?
And of course, we can always wait and see how different things turn out.
