The debate about kashrut and how the Goldberg family seems completely oblivious about it is interesting; a commentator on "ambiguously Jewish" notes that "this isn't particularly indicative as lots of Reform Jews don't observe it" (exact quote unavailable). thinknig about this, is this an example of Values dissonance between Europe and the USA? The USA has a larger Jewish population than Israel; of course that gives greater scope for a massive span of opinions and approaches and outlooks within the Jewish community, in a way you wouldn't get in Europe where (at least in Britain) there appears to be a lot more homogeneity, tighter communities based on the big urban areas (Manchester, London, Leeds) and probably because of this, a lot more religious observance. So being used to "our own" Jews, we look at the USA, see things like shellfish, ham and cheese on the table of an American Jewish family, and go - WTF?
