Maybe we can think of a more respectful way to refer to a main character than "also the token black kid". I'm addressing this to me some years back, since I'm the idiot who wrote it that way, way back when, but if anyone else would also like to take me to task, please feel free. In retrospect it seems rather disrespectful of the actress in question, Venus DeMilo Thomas. I'm sorry, that was ill-written.
I do feel like Telly's race was only incidental to the plot, which was surely cynical at times, and yet... TV Tropes can do better than that.
