Alternate History: Couple of decent suggestions in the thread as to the timeline. It's very tough to determine what would have happened as Britain/London doesn't look scarred by war and the fact that Alfie was fighting in Malaysia means the Empire is somewhat/mostly preserved. That said, there is of course mention of independent Scotland and Wales. The only way I could see this as happening is if they voluntarily seceded from the UK, perhaps in the aftermath of a dishonourable peace treaty.
Halifax could have come to power. It's also possible that Hess' mission succeeded given the inordinate power that the English nobility seem to wield in this timeline. A third option is that Churchill never becomes PM, nor does Halifax but a third (unknown) leader does and after one of the plots to kill Hitler succeeds earlier on in the war (see Beppo Romer), or perhaps there's a putsch by the army. Either way, this Germany reaches an accommodation with Britain allowing German suzerainty over much of Europe hence explaining the lack of a German victory but lack of a German defeat. So Martha's joking over "I was only following orders" might be attributable to Nazi stalwarts defending policy positions having been arrested and put on trial.
It's a tough one and maybe there isn't a coherent point of departure but the stories are fun and I like these nods to alternative continuities.
