So "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot (and aesop) therapy-wise was taken off, but one of the writers said: "instead of dealing with it the way that Patrick Fabian's character, Howard Hamlin, did when he thought the death of Chuck was his fault, he went to therapy, he did all this work that helped him through it. All the stuff that Jimmy should be doing, he never did. So he's got all this emotional stuff that he keeps pushing down and pushing down and pushing down, and the more he pushes it down, the more it wants to rise up like a volcano, and he needs to do even worse stuff." which I feel like makes both entries pretty justified?

S3e 3 mild spoilers. If anyone is still here: What tropes can we add about Ernie being fired by Chuck?. Evil Is Petty? Hypocrite? Kick the Dog? etc. Also the morality of it all: Ernie DID went behind his boss back and told Jimmy about the tape but Chuck meant for that to happen and manipulated the situation and ernie for that to happen.

  • Darker and Edgier: Seasons 2 and onward compared to season 1. In season 2, Jimmy starts engaging in much shadier tactics, while Mike starts getting more and more involved in cartel work.

Season 1 is just about as dark. Mike murders two people in season 1 and has an emotional speech about guilt over his son's murder. Season 2 has Jimmy bending or breaking lawyer ethics rules, and even sabotaging the HHM Mesa Verde files to benefit his girlfriend, but in season 1 he spent a good while as a professional criminal.
