Battle Action Harem Highschool Side Character Quest
In the year 2070, humanity is under attack by the monstrous Antagonists. Fortunately, humans are capable of fighting back thanks to the Amplifier Artifact Power Armors known as Valkyrie Frames. One of the unusual traits of Valkyrie Frames is that most of the people who can use them are women. The story begins with one of the few men compatible with Valkyrie Cores, Rokusabe Koujirou, enrolling in a military school known as Perth Valkyrie Academy.
Sound familiar? Here's the twist: Koujirou is the main character but he is not the Player Character.
Battle Action Harem Highschool Side Character Quest (No SV, you are the Waifu) is a Play-by-Post Choose Your Own Adventure story by Avalanche, posted on Sufficient Velocity forums. After the introduction, the author gave the players a list of archetypes representing the side characters of the setting. Players could vote on which archetype they wanted to play, as well as the archetypes for the other characters. The players' goal is to take their side character and turn her into a main character, either by Saving the World, romancing the hero, or by getting a spin-off. The archetypes included the Younger Sister, the Older Sister, the Oujo, the Designer Child, the Ace, the Broken Ace, the Awkward Shy Girl, and the Monster.
The playerbase, in their infinite wisdom, chose the Monster: a sixteen year-old North American girl named Anna Sanchez. Anna is an extremely experienced pilot who single-handedly protected her hometown for eight years until the UN discovered her. Which means she has all the trauma that comes from fighting alone for eight years ever since she was eight years old. Oh, and she couldn't save her town anyway.
But don't worry; even though Anna is a socially maladjusted PTSD-sufferer, there may be hope for her yet...
