When Dean and Cassie are researching the disappearance of Cyrus Dorian, a lot of the bylines on the newspaper read "Pauley, Mississippi" instead of Cape Girardeau, to say nothing of the fact that the newspaper itself is called the "Pauley Breeze". In addition, when Sam is trying to find the location of the church, the road map he is looking at is clearly of Ponontoc County, Mississippi (the names of some real towns in the area, like Randolph and Tula, are visible), and when we see a shot of Mayor Todd's car, it clearly has Mississippi license plates. Could the Artistic License – Geography issues mentioned stem from the fact that the episode is meant to take place in a fictional town in rural Mississippi, and the writers or producers accidentally labeled the opening scene in Cape Girardeau?

The trope is now known as Maligned Mixed Marriage. Was the couple's interrracial relationship looked down upon in-universe?

I'd say so. It's implied to be the reason Cyrus Dorian targeted Martin for murder. (It may also be a case of Artistic License – History - interracial marriage wasn't legal in Missouri until 1967)
