"It" Is Dehumanizing: Trip's more comfortable calling the cogenitor "she" rather than "it," as the other Vissians do. Archer follows suit. Oddly enough, no one chooses to call the cogenitor the singular "they" (though the singular use of "they" was far less common when the episode was produced). It is also true that even today people have great difficulty using they as a pronoun as it is grammatically confusing. It's not that unbelievable that Archer and Trip would too.
A recent edit took away the final two sentences and personally I disagree with this edit as, frankly, using they as a pronoun isn't in any way common today either. Very, very few people describe themselves as such and clearly don't so by the same of ENT. I think this example needs a whole rewrite.
