I have a little trouble with the O.O.C. Is Serious Business examples. Does this trope apply for characters who are from an alternate timeline, and thus a change in personality should be not just normal, but expected?

Also, Applejack's example would belong in the previous episode, not this one.

I'd say so. You can even see it in Twilight's reactions whenever she comes across them. Yeah it's alternate timelines, but it's still a version of the trope to let the audience know these aren't the characters she knows. Or would you rather classify it as Same Character, But Different?

Though yeah, my bad about AJ. Forgot that this is a two-parter =P.
