Firefly's name was dropped as a general who was involved in the Wonderbolts history.
Does that count as And The Fandom Rejoiced or not?
Hide / Show RepliesI'd say that if there is much fan rejoicing over the Mythology Gag, then it should go in YMMV.
Even if it was And The Fandom Rejoiced it wouldn't go in YMMV. That trope is Sugar Wiki, so no examples outside the trope page.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Does Rainbow's inability to sit still for a lecture qualify as a Compressed Vice? We've seen in previous episodes that she can sit still and focus enough to read novels, and Twilight actually hangs a lampshade on that in this episode. (Just trying to find something that will satisfy the tropers adding & deleting the Ambiguous Disorder thing, and Compressed Vice looks like a pretty good fit to me.)
Hide / Show RepliesThat sounds about right for me at least. Rainbow's behavior is "too normal" (especially when you consider the target audience) here to warrant the Ambiguous Disorder trope.
IIRC, Rainbow Dash was kicked out of flight school because she tended to sleep through class. So, her inability to study was established.
@Peteman: IIRC, the exact line in "The Cutie Mark Chronicles" was "too many classes and not enough nap time", so I agree this isn't a Compressed Vice. Hmmm...doesn't count as a callback either, because "nap time" isn't one of the things she bugged Twilight about before the lecture...
I am glad we're using the discussion page to hash this out, at any rate. The comments in the edit history were getting a little ugly for a moment.
EDIT: I think that "Rainbow Dash's inability to study was established in "The Cutie Mark Chronicles"" would fit under Call-Back. I gotta hit the straw soon; I'll check back here in the morning and add it if there are no objections, unless one of you beats me to it.
Edited by 174.99.17.169On Non-Uniform Uniform: "though it's justified because the various uniforms are based off uniforms the Wonderbolts wore throughout history." Doesn't that just mean it's not an example of the trope?

The Subverted Trope entry on the main recap page seems to refer to Know-Nothing Know-It-All, but did Rainbow ever actually claim to know everything there was to know about the Wonderbolts? I remember that she's been obsessed with joining them since the series premiere, but I can't recall her claiming to have any specific knowledge about them aside from their current lineup. Is this another Not An Example?
