Comparison with Rarity takes Mainhatin and using the similarities to guess about future episodes. Similarities Both Rarity and Rainbowdash left Ponyville to compete in their established career field. Both Rarity and Rainbowdash run into ponies they are competing with, who tests their connection with their element. Both Rarity and Rainbowdash have a rainbow flash when they realize what they have to do whether thats cause or effect is unclear. By keeping true to their element in the end they Both Rarity and Rainbowdash teach somepony the value of their element. Both recieve a trinket from the person they taught about their element. In both the thing they are given flashes like a rainbow in the end.

In Rarity takes Mainhaten Cocoa the pony who does the actual dirty work involved in the act which led to Rarity's conflict with her element is the one who learns the lesson. Cocoa is also the pony's who's work Rarity is in direct compatition with. Rarity's officially in compitition with Suri a jerk who takes credit for a combination of her assistant Cocoa and Rarity's work. Suri's taking credit for her work as well as her words after doing so are what cause Rarity's conflict with her element. In Rainbow falls both the competitors seem equally sympathetic throughout, and t is clearly the pony who tests Rainbowdashes element who learns her lesson and gives the trinket.

Non informed speculation. I believe that the conflict with the element the rainbow flash and the gift that flashes rainbow at the end is a given for future episodes. I'm betting that the rainbow flashing gift will come from a pony who learned from the other elements besides magic in the future. I'm also betting they will leave Ponyville for all the other trinkets besides Twilight Sparkle's. The trinket coming from somebody who helped test the element in future episodes seems likely but given how different Cocoa was from the Wonderbolt maby not. The other five could be in compatition's with the people who give the other trinkets but not likely.

I think the example currently under What the Hell, Hero? would better fit under Rage Against the Mentor.

the episode had a lot of other good things going for it. They managed to make Spitfire and Fleetfoot NOT feel like jerks, despite lying to Rainbow Dash and Soarin (I got the feeling that they were simply desperate. and while Fleetfoot and Spitfire appear to act like jerks behave like jerks, but, at the end, I liked it. It gives them a new dimension; makes them fallible, relatable. Plus they saw their error at the end of the episode, so it works.
