Should Right for the Wrong Reasons have been put into YMMV? Because, well, that scene fit the trope to a "T." Everything that Twilight brought up had a reasonable explanation that didn't point being evil. Twilight was basically set off by vague rudeness, rather than Deceptive!Cadance's failure to recognize her, which would have been proof if she had noticed it.
Am I the only one who feels that fans should just get over the Made Out to Be a Jerkass incident and move the fuck on? Because at the end of the day, it doesn't affect Twilight's friendships and Twilight was proven right anyway. I think the fans take some moments too seriously.
Hide / Show RepliesAlso, from their points of view, the rest of the Mane 5 and Celestia were totally justified in their behavior. Shining Armor wasn't, but Queen Chrysalis had him under mind control. Remember, only Shining Armor and Mi Amore Cadenza are there when Twilight gets all excited about the wedding. The audience sees Twilight's reaction, but the other ponies don't. Also, as far as I can tell Twilight never tells them she knew Cadance before. They probably would have listened if it was more "I know Cadance. That isn't Cadance" instead of "This mare is no where near good enough for my big brother! Rage!" So, yeah, the fans need to get over it.
What trope would Spike playing with the toys/cake toppers be? Would it be "Shout Out" or "Audience Surrogate"?
Hide / Show RepliesI don't know, neither of those. Also, I didn't think of it like that at all. Not everything is about the Periphery Demographic. I know I don't exactly feel like I'm being like Spike there...
Edited by VVKCan I nuke the fan-service and ascended meme entries? They're just plain creepy.
I removed some tropes for not being found in the episode. Let's see... at least:
- Broken Aesop: It was basically saying this contradicted the aesops before or something. I don't agree, but more importantly, it said nothing about how this episode shows one thing and tells another (or anything does just that), so it's not an example anyway.
- With Us or Against Us: Huge stretch there. Shining Armor was saying something like "You weren't considerate about this aspect, which you should care about," not "If you don't agree with one thing, you must not care about anything else either."
I do wish people would stop thinking "I really didn't like this happening in the work, I have to find a trope to complain about it with." Not only is it in itself silly, but in practice they never get the trope examples right when they (apparently) do that.
Edited by VVK Hide / Show RepliesSomehow, I do agree with you. The Square Peg Round Trope thing make the tropes and the articles inaccurate. People need to be considerate on what's present and what's not.
Edited by Craver357During the fight scene with the minor Changelings, Fluttershy gets surrounded by four Rainbow Dashes. One of them is real and knocks out the other three.
Then...
Dashie Kisses Fluttershy!? At least that's what Some of the shippers in my local group and I say, on account of the kiss SFX during it.
But did they really?
Hide / Show RepliesAfter studying this clip at 1:22 for a solid seven seconds, I cannot deny the plausibility. The kissing sound effect is far more prominent than the fighting background noises, but reasonable doubt remains. I'm sure someone who takes shipping far more seriously than I do will do a frame-by-frame analysis to determine whether or not lip contact was made.
I suspect it's a "picks her up" sound effect, like all those other movement sound effects for characters peeking out from behind something, characters thrusting their heads forward, and other things like that that don't actually make a sound.
Edited by VVK"What Could Have Been: According to the writer this was supposed to be a one-shot, slice-of-life episode without any villain. But it was rewritten as a two-parter with an adventure aspect."
Is this really "what could have been?" when the changes were a massive improvement and turned out the best episode to date?
Hide / Show RepliesEven if it was, which there is no way of confirming for sure, that doesn't matter for What Could Have Been. For better or worse, it is simply What Could Have Been.
Let me answer this question with another question: Is her name Rarity or Rarity Belle?
I would like to propose Stealth Pun being added to the list. As pointed out on 4chan in this amusing joke: >Princess Celestia takes care of the day >Princess Luna takes care of the night >Princess Cadence takes care of Twilight.
Hide / Show RepliesWhy on earth does this page have a WMG section? We've got 10 entire pages of Pony-related WM Gs. We don't need one for a single episode.
Hide / Show RepliesThis is some Wild Mass Guessing on my part, but it seems people don't know where to put their crazy theories.
So, is it canonically "Cadence" or "Cadance"? Just because I noticed that somebody apparently went through the article replacing every instance of the former with the latter, which AFAIK isn't even a real word (wiktionary.com has it as a common *misspelling* of 'cadence', though)...
Hide / Show RepliesOfficial releases and Studio B staff have used both versions. I remember seeing a post somewhere that confirmed it as "Cadance" but I can't find it, so don't take my word for it. Spell My Name With An S indeed.
Why are the episode titles not showing at the top of the recap pages for the "Canterlot Wedding" episodes? Is this some sort of technical hiccup?
Hide / Show RepliesUnknown and I'm 100% sure is a technical hiccup.
Logging off, Dr Thinker, a.k.a, Mad WritterAnyone think that Cadence will be a Take That! to all these alicorn OCs running around?
Hide / Show RepliesIt remains to be seen. If Twilight and Rarity spend several days wondering if she's Nightmare Moon but not really doing anything about it, I'll be amazed.
This still could be possible. Her characterization more or less echoes that of most Mary Sues running about fanfiction.
It's more probable that she's a Take That! to all the fans who throw a TANTRUM whenever anyone makes an alicorn OC....
As to her characterization, it's done deliberately, in retrospect, to make the counterfeit Cadence's behavior that much more obvious. Plus it's mostly fond memories being recited by Twilight—- and it's not like Twilight's given to exaggeration, is she?
Note: Both of Twilight's second season episodes, "Lesson Zero" and "It's About Time", are about how she takes a particular issue and exaggerates its potential effects, leading to wild and unreasonable action on her part. No wonder her friends don't side with her when she initially confronts the impostor Cadence.
Don't know if this goes under Unfortunate Implications or not, but there were a couple of people commenting about how overjoyed they were that Twilight had an older brother...so they had more characters to invoke incest shipping with.
“Dude, sucking at something is the first step to being sorta good at something!” - Jake the Dog Hide / Show RepliesNo, because the implication is not made within the show itself. Let's face it, if we went by incest-slash-fic writer's standards, every show on on TV would have to include Unfortunate Implications.
I recently edited this page, but I want to keep what I edited Idiot Ball to for reference:
The reason for this is due to me trying to keep this entry as neutral as I can make it, since I do believe that both Twilight's actions and the others' reactions apply for the trope. There was also the fact that the original edit stated that the others were "totally unjustified", which just isn't true (I posted a detailed discussion topic on it here).
Now, I'm of the camp that thinks both sides of that argument should get over it, but we need to at least maintain accuracy on the main page.
