Is it just me or is Pinkie's behavior a bit more irritating then usual in this episode ?
If you want to make enemies try and change something - Woodrow WilsonWonderbolt academy is worse i hated the characterization in that one. it seems like they like to portray donkeys as ugly in looks and attitude. why on earth would pinkie want to be friends with him in the first place.
Early on, while Pinkie's being her usual hyper self, she plays with Cranky's droopy ears and ties them into a bow on top of his head. Would this be a Shout-Out to that old children's song ("Do your ears hang low? Do they wobble to and fro? Can you tie them in a knot? Can you tie them in a bow?"), or some other trope?
Edited by RosesSpindle Hide / Show RepliesI'm sure I've seen that gag in older cartoons (I'm thinking Looney Toons or its contemporaries). Pinkie's behavior through all this episode was very similar to that of a cartoon character of that era, so it probably was a nod to that era of wacky characters.
I have the feeling that Cranky's name was actually simply Doodle Donkey, and the Cranky got added over the years as he became more grumpy over being unable to find his special friend.
Said special friend seemed surprised, when she said, "My. You really are Cranky, aren't you?"
We don't have to be mean. Remember - no matter where you go, there you are. —Buckaroo BanzaiI feel that the "felt animation sequence" should be mentioned under Art Shift, but Pinkie's act of pulling out of the green felt check would be under Medium Blending. Whatcha think?
My Deviant Art account. There might be art there. Sometimes. Hide / Show RepliesAre we sure that particular checkmark is in stop motion, though? It seems like it could just be a .jpeg of a felt checkmark, and it doesn't particularly look like stop motion, just frame-by-frame animation.
Did anyone else catch Pinkie thinking inside the chimney again?
Hide / Show RepliesI did! The moment I saw that I thought "And the antics of Chancellor Puddinghead return!
Her face when deciding to apologize to Cranky reminded me very strongly of Chancellor Puddinghead.
Did anyone else think the last few minutes of the show were trying to get some crap past the radar?
two lovers reunited, they kiss and tell pinkie they want some privacy and then go into the house together. Pinkie then interrupts them and they both get aggravated with her. It doesn't exactly take a genius to know what they had in mind.
Hide / Show RepliesIMO it never implied any Hot Coffee. Any suggestive implication is Heh Heh, You Said "X" at best...
My Deviant Art account. There might be art there. Sometimes. Two things:
During Pinkie Pie's morning warm-up routine, doesn't it bring to mind a certain Pixar movie? What really made the connection was the part where she fell on a bunch of jacks, and then she landed in a bunch of toys, much to the Cake twins delight.
There was a Visual Pun / Stealth Pun when Pinkie was complementing Cranky's wagon. She went back and got her own just to greet him with. In other words: She rolled out the "Welcome Wagon."
Edited by MaroxXIII The following sig has been censored due to copyright. The only creature to refuse her friendship? So what happened to Gilda?
Hide / Show RepliesDid Pinkie really offer to be friends with Gilda? The description says the first creature to refuse her offer, so if Pinkie didn't offer to her the description is still valid.
I'm surprised it's taken this long for her offer to be refused. No one has ever said no to her wild and crazy antics before? Is Ponyville really that nice of a neighborhood?
And when she thought they had rejected her... well... we've seen what happens there.
After seeing today's episode, it seems like there's a difference between being rejected by a stranger and a friend.
I think some of Ponyville is saying yes to Pinkie's friendship because it's the path of least resistance.
"Aren't you cold, Finn?"I think it's strange that Cranky didn't really have a good reason (other than her being hyper) for refusing Pinkie's friendship to begin with, but as the episode goes on Pinkie's obsessive behavior ends up worsening relations and actually justifies Cranky's attitude. Thank Celestia Pinkie Pie knows the only other donkey in town.
We've seen at least one other male donkey before, so presumably there are at least two donkeys in town.
"Aren't you cold, Finn?"Are you talking about the mule from Applebuck Season? At least I thought it was a mule. He kind of looked like a cross between a horse and donkey, at least.
I'd say he would have been only creature who lived in Ponyville to reject her friendship. I'm sure plenty of Canterlot residents hate her for trashing at least two high end social functions, while Gilda, Flim and Flam were all just passing through and thus were not Ponyville residents. Cranky actually was going to settle down there.
Did anyone else notice how Pinkie is taking after Twilight a bit. A friend making checklist, as opposed to the pilot where you just get the gasp. And how she goes to Twilight for advice/to vent.
Hide / Show RepliesThis isn't the first time Pinkie has vented to Twilight. Remember "Griffon the Brush-Off"?
Did anyone else think of Steven Magnet when Pinkie gave Cranky his new wig? After all, Rarity did make the wig and she proved her generosity with Steven Magnet in episode 2.
Hide / Show RepliesPinkie's "Smile" song is an "I Am" Song, not an Image Song. An Image Song, according to the article, is a supplemental promotional piece released independently of the show (no, a leak doesn't count). This is not the case with the song in the episode. It's a musical number in the show.
