Um, um, um, I've been double-checking and as far as I can tell nobody's pointed this out yet so... Mels/River poisons the Doctor with a Kiss of Death. And her lipstick was made from the *Judas* tree? In the Bible, Judas (same guy the tree is named for) betrays Jesus Christ to the guard with a kiss. Either this is so incredibly obvious it doesn't bear saying or somehow it's been missed. Just thought I'd mention it.
I have this thing I've been thinking about ever since I saw this episode, and I'll be glad if someone could axplain it to me (I didn't find a "headscratchers" page, so I assume it belongs here): in "The Impossible Astronaut", The Doctor is killed at the lake by a misterious space suit. He is DEFINITELY dead, as far as I can tell from the burial ceremony they give him. At the next episode (can't seem to remember the name right now) we find out it was the girl that was in the suit, and that she might have been the one that shot him. Next, we see her regenerate (so it MUST be Melody, right?). When we see Mels in "Lets Kill Hitler" she is clearly after that regeneration, because her next (and last) one is River. So shooting The Doctor was in her past, when she was younger. My question is: why does she try to kill him again, even though she KNOWS she shot him TWICE? What deifference does it make? It only messes up the timeline anyway. Did anyone think about it, or is it just me?
Hide / Show RepliesYes, I noticed this.
Given current theories (some of it still up in the air until more River episodes) Melody Pond killed the doctor when she was 8ish years old, in her first form(Melody Pond) then again attempts to kill him when she is much older, in her 3rd form(River Song)
Maybe she didn't realise she was successful the first time? she was very young at the time.
Maybe she wants to ensure that the doctor doesn't have chance to re-write time by killing him as early in his timeline as possible.
For both Fridge Brilliance/Imperial Stormtrooper Marksman Academy: Actually Hitler does manage to hit the Tesselecta at least once - you can see it stagger after the first shot, and an interior shot shows sparks and smoke. It's just that the only thing Hitler hit that he could damage was Melody.
Hide / Show RepliesIf there were sparks and smoke inside it, he did damage it. Just not a lot.
True enough, but the point I was going for is that he actually did manage to hit something other than Melody.
The tesselecta can reproduce an entire motorcycle... but not a pair of glasses?
Hide / Show RepliesIt could have been done simply to freak him out. Highly doubt there's anything in their rulebook against messing with a mark's head, unless it voids historical continuity.
Why bother wasting the power by morphing if you don't have to. They were planning on killing him, so why not petty theft too? There was an urgent need for the motorbike morph, but not for the glasses.
One of the crew said something along the line of, "I told you it would work" when the Tesselecta morphed into the motorbike. So it may have been beyond its design perimeters, but they tried it because it was a bit of an emergency.
Do we ever get a name for the group/organisation of the Tiny Cross Justice People?
Hide / Show RepliesThe Tesselecta, wasn't it? If not that, then the Justice Department.
My Blog: Read and enjoy! My Blogcritics PageNo, I think the Tessalecta was the name of the ship/robot. They've been referred to as the crew, but I don't remember the actual name being mentioned.
No, I'm pretty sure they said they were from the "Justice Department".
In case this can be used anywhere, the second Hitler appears (the back of his head shown as the tesselecta walks up) to the moment he's gone (Rory closes the door after putting him in the cupboard) is three and a half minutes.
just before rory tells amy he's not gay, Mels says about "mr perfect". Amy thinks she means the doctor before she then tells Amy she meant Rory. So does this count as another example of something really referring to Rory and not the doctor like first assumed?
Could someone please tidy up this page? The plot summary is in an inappropriate format.
Could the Tesselecta be another Chekov's Gun/fakeout for the Doctor's death? After all, it's never stated what happened to it beyond the doctor downloading some data...
Is it just me, or is it heavily implied that the Doctor does not, in fact, find baby Melody, she is raised by warlords to be a living weapon... and everyone is OK with this? At the end they're all just like, well, Melody turns out OK, I guess our job as parents is done, lets go off and have silly adventures. Did I miss something?
(Yes, I quoted Timon twice there. No, there's no significance in that.)
Hide / Show RepliesNope, not just you. That's the same thing I saw and I found it disturbing that this is okay to everyone involved. Usually I would give the benefit of the doubt on this and wait to see what happens, but I have to admit that in this case, this is the way it comes off and that it is heavily implied that it will not be mentioned again except in passing.
I'm sure there were people saying this exact thing about the erasure of Rory this time last year.
There's a prelude to this episode consisting of messages on the Doctor's voicemail "Where's my daughter?" Also right at the beginning Amy says "You've had three months, where's nmy daughter?". Then crazy stuff starts happening, a lot.
Why exactly can the doctor not regenerate again?
Hide / Show RepliesIt was never explicitly stated, but the Amelia hologram stated that "Regeneration has been disabled," so it likely has something to do with the poisoned lipstick. Perhaps that poison itself is capable of nullifying a Time Lord's regeneration or, somewhat more likely, The Silence added an anti-regeneration agent to the poison to prevent it.
Has anyone looked at the Judas Tree page over on The Other Wiki? "The leaves appear shortly after the first flowers, which are poisonous when consumed by Time Lords, emerge." Is there a way to add that in as a screenshot? I'm going to add the quote in for now before the Wiki Police find it, but it just seems like such a waste.
Arc Words, perhaps? 'The Silence' comes up again and, in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, it's revealed that the lake that The Doctor dies at is called Lake Silencio.
η β πI wanted to add that Torchwood's first episode Everything Changes was also given a Title Drop, but the page is checked out.
Leaning on the fourth wall maybe? River says, "I might take the age down a little bit, just gradually, to freak people out." Thus it explains why she is younger in Silence in the Library etc, when obviously its cause she was younger when it was filmed
Hide / Show RepliesI was thinking Real Life Writes the Plot, but it's not like her exact real-life age is important to the show. Yeah, that seems like the right trope.
Fan Fiction has already done the Time Lord with a sonic cane: In RPG format, no less!
When River runs up to the Doctor on Hitler's desk, she gets suuuuper close. Then she runs away to go explore herself some more. Watch the Doctor's hands. And where they rest for a moment, as her parents go to sit next to him. III Interesting.
Ok, so why exactly is the Doctor said to be dressed like Marlene Dietrich? As far as I can tell it's just him wearing a tuxedo, the same one from Amy and Rory's wedding, with the same top hat he wore then. I know Marlene Dietrich famously wore a tuxedo, but how exactly is this connected?
