Does anyone else think that when "Lily" tells Buffy about traveling around with a "loser preacher" and calling herself "Sister Sunshine", it's an extremely early reference to Caleb in season seven? If it is, Joss Whedon is even more of a genius than I thought he was.

I think this a great example of 'head-canon', that is something that seems like it might or even must be so but which can not be verified or disproved based on canon in-Universe (or 'Word of G-d') evidence.

Note that I am not using the term pejoratively, and like mine own examples of it, e.g. that Slayers have some supernatural boost to their weapons' finding an opponent's heart, or Angel's ensoulment being responsible for Spike and Drusilla's being a little less soulless than the normal run of vampire, much as Lawson was 'tainted' by the soul—S.&D. were turned before the ensoulment, and Spike is only Angel's grand-get, but magic may laugh at simple causality and figurative proximity.
