It also likens fascism to conservatism, ignoring that fascism is inherently revolutionary, collectivistic and anti-capitalist, all of which are strong factors as to why conservatives abhorr the left wing. Furthermore, it makes a false distinction between socialism and communism, portraying the latter as the radicalization of the former, when they're actually the means and the end goal, even if socialism never produces communism.
It seems to have been created to appeal to the ego of libertarians, rather than actively try to explain any real resemblance between political stances.
That...is literally the opposite of fascism. Fascism is reactionary, not revolutionary, since it tries to roll back social progress. It's also firmly PRO-capitalist, since it allowed German corporations to continue existing, outlawed labor unions, and the very first people they sent to concentration camps were Socialists and Communists, who were anti-capitalist. They also rented out slave labor in concentration camps to various German corporations.
There are many problems with Horseshoe Effect, but putting fascism and conservatism on the same side (right-wing) isn't one of them.
Perhaps there should be a mention of the fact that this trope is considered bunk by actual Political Scientists, who point out that it overly simplifies extremely different ideologies while also ignoring others, like anarchists?
