I don't know if it counts as deconstruction but that did sound like a correct description of when the Panda recruits Ace Kirby in The Endgame. Maybe Subverted or Defied since it's taking a common RPD trope and making people actively aware of it enough to avoid it.

I just added a third main point to Once an Episode, but I'm pretty sure I'm getting the details of that episode wrong. Please correct it with the actual name if you have a better recollection.
