This special is suppose to be about giving thanks for what you got and being grateful. The narrator claims Mama is even grateful for Papa, and she makes a sad, disgusted face while dusting his picture like she is not really happy about their marriage or his image. She is fooling everyone including herself. She is not not all grateful, but rather insincere. This is after wishing to meet a young handsome stranger while divining with a honey comb. This special is meant to be about judging others’ by their appearances but what they are on the insides.
However, as I said before, Mama is more than excited for meeting a handsome young stranger than her husband’s safety. If she really believes that It is the inside that counts why does she care what a stranger she meets looks like? She even makes a sad, horrible face looking at her husband’s while cleaning. She wants her husband and cubs to judge by its cover, but that only implies to them, not her.
This special is about accepting others who they are even if the are different from us and acceptance. It is about racial hatred. Yet, she is the one who predicts/ conjures up Big Paw and frightens her and their Papa with the Big Paw legend. If someone tells you Muslims are blowing up churches, Native Americans are on the warpath, blacks/Asian criminals are looting or Mexican and rednecks are raping women, regardless of whether they are true or not, you will be afraid. People who are in these ethnic groups would be, too. Papa is acting like anyone would, but it goes overboard. No thanks to Mama .She wants Papa to get kill by this monster.
