About all the references to "Al-Thamen's father"... technically that thing is the Medium, and the "father" that Gyokuen briefly speaks about is Il-Illa, the evil god they hope to summon. The Medium is just that: the physical form of the black rukh used to connect the human world and the world of Il-Illa, so calling it "Al-Thamen's father" is a mistake.
When the dean of Magdnostadt (sp) pats Aladdin on the head, is it an example of Pet The Dog? It seemed like a classic one to me...
