Why the X in the title? The trope could just be called You Watch Too Much Television and be done with the place holder.

It seems that in a significant fraction of examples, X is the very medium that the work utilizes. Perhaps we have some Hypocritical Humor or Take That Me at work in this Trope.
Can I upload a picture from the comic Calvin and Hobbes? It's the part where Calvin gets upset that he didn't win the poster contest, and he demands his dad to call the contest rigged. But his dad says that losing is a part of life, and winning isn't everything. Calvin then sceptically asked his dad what planet he was from, while his dad sternly responds to Calvin if he's been watching those "athletic shoes ads" again. And then I want to quote underneath the picture "It's going to be a grim day when the world is run by a generation that doesn't know anything but what was seen on TV!". What do you think? Is this okay?
