The Cold War can't be counted. It never became a 'hot' war where either side actually fought each other directly. It was an arms race and general hostility on both sides. The Vietnam War was a proxy war, and was too small and self-contained to count. So, the GWOT is actually World War V.
A new numbering system is needed for World Wars.
The Seven Years War is probably the first global war fought in both hemispheres. The Napoleonic Wars can be considered World War Two The Great War of 1914-1918 is then World War Three The conflict from 1939-45 is then World War Four The Cold War is thus World War Five, which means The GWOT is World War Six
