would it be worth noting under the animals/beast sections something like "If the character is in a setting with Mons, this will be their Signature Mon." or something ? i was just thinking a bit ago and remembered when i was younger, all the pokemon series' human characters tended to have this trope listed where "Signature Mon" is now, before that trope had its own page and stuff, so i feel like it's worth sticking it down as one of many kinds since a signature mon certainly qualifies in works where animals/monsters are catchable and fight and all

So just curious, what weapons would fit what Four-Temperament Ensemble type?

Concerning Crossbows: Although they do tend to be favored by the hunters and characters who would be cold snipers if not for the fact that the setting they are in prevents such archetypes, it seems like crossbows are often portrayed in a different manner: Often, they are shown juxtaposed with bows. The bows are depicted as noble weapons, representing tradition and generally depicted as more efficient, but requiring more skill. In contrast, crossbows are shown as the bow's more brutish cousin, something you shove into the hands of conscripted peasants or angry orcs, delivering a lot of power without much skill needed. In settings where fantasy gun control is in effect, crossbows represent industrialization (to some extent), and the destruction of all those positive traits the bow is shown to represent. In essence, franchises such as Game of Thrones have generally established the crossbow as a "bad guy" weapon.

Sorry for the overly long ramble, but the main page seemed to indicate that I'm not allowed to add any of this to it without starting a discussion thread first.

Huh. These tropes don't really deal with the weapons per se, but with the characters using them. There is a repair discussion somewhere in the forum about this.

That makes intuitive sense; looking at the examples, there are at least as many examples of "crossbow = conscript with less training than a true Archer Archetype" as "crossbow = professional Badass."

It might also be worthwhile to note that, in modern settings, crossbows are often chosen by sneaky types as a less-noisy alternative to a firearm.

What would you replace the paragraph we currently have with? What you've already written is accurate enough, but a bit lengthy. I bet we can make the same point with a little more conciseness.

Edit: Found the thread @SeptimusHeap mentioned: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=1412933879080775200&page=14

What does being a Walking Armory say about a character?
