Is it possible that this trope is a subconscious result from human reproduction, with the female vagina lubricating for sex and the womb becoming full of amniotic fluid and birth beginning with the waters breaking?
Hide / Show RepliesI wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

Then there's also breastfeeding/lactation, which only comes from female mammals and is essential for nourishing newborns (strong association with life).
I'm not sure if lactation is so prominent in this case. Remember that this trope revolves around the portrayal of water as a feminine motif. The case of pregnancy and amniotic fluid definitely fits, but milk is... just another liquid; even though milk is partially composed of water, trying to establish a link between it and this trope does feel like a stretch. Keep in mind that this is just my opinion, though

For some reason the "female character of water element" archetype is one of my favorites and I didn't know there was a trope for it. (Though it seems this trope doesn't apply to more tomboyish characters)
None for female characters of fire element, I see, which is also up there for me.
