Perhaps I'm missing something, but why is the trope title gender-specific? As far as I can tell, the trope isn't, even though a lot of examples may be.

No idea. Vigilante would have been a better title. Nobody says "vigilante man".

I know I'm late to the conversation, but perhaps it's supposed to be a superhero name? "Vigilante Man! He cleans scum off the streets!"
