I don't get why this page is locked. I'd love to add an XCOM 2 example to it.
Hide / Show RepliesGTA V / Online also has an Useless Useful Stealth mechanism. It comes even with a stealth bar, showing how much you improved your ability to sneak up on NPC's. The more you use it, the higher the level, which allows you to move faster in silence.
It is only useful on Stealth Missions for Heists, namely one section of Humane Labs where you must deliver a vehicle undetected, and Funding Series A, where you must execute all guards and steal two vans. Since the stealth is more based in line-of-sight and sound, this is the best implementation of stealth outside of its proper game genre, which makes it very credible and true-to-life. The use of silent weapons is mandatory, along with the ability to move quietly. You are not invisible, just using dark clothes at night, and sneaking past guards.
However, it is totally useless against other human adversaries in freemode, since your icon is displayed on the minimap, along with your full name when viewed directly (you have to dial Lester to be "off the map" to get rid of that).
One interesting detail is, modders can manage to enable clothing *without textures*, as in, the clothes are not rendered, and are thus invisible. You will see a pair of floating arms and hands with a floating head moving in unison, but no chest connecting them, which actually makes it difficult to snipe such a character from a distance when you are in a hurry, which would add another dimension to the game if it wasn't "cheating".
Non-VG example: Mystery Men (film) — Johnny's invisibility only works when nobody is looking. As a result, it's completely useless. (Until.)
Cleaning Removed this entry because it was an unnecessary aversion:
- Averted in Golden Eye Wii. Alerting soldiers will most likely lead to a difficult and unnecessary skirmish. But sneaking around(when you can) and taking out foes before they notice you is the best way to avoid dying. And silenced weapons do their job.:
Would it be okay to add
• Averted in Fallout 3 (also New Vegas and Oblivion). Attacking while stealthed grants damage bonuses
Why is this trope not YMMV when the Supertrope (Underused Game Mechanic) is YMMV?
