Suggestion - one could argue that the failure of Fantastic Four (2015) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice killed the trend of superhero movies leaning almost exclusively towards Darker and Edgier and Real Is Brown.
While there have been films such as Logan and The Batman (2022), most superhero films have gone more for a lighter tone, and even the darker entries still have some degree of levity.
Could you argue that Doom 2016 was a Trend Killer for every FPS game having to fit into Call of Duty/Battlefield's mold of "realism first" (Limited Loadout, Regenerating Health, token singleplayer mode with a primary focus on Pv P multiplayer, ect.) and setting a new standard for new and fanciful FPS games with forward momentum and old-school arcadey influences to become the norm? The old template is still around, but it's mostly confined to military sims, Grandfather Clause, or a combination of both.
