Don't we normally try to avoid naming tropes after characters? Is this one of the exceptions (a la the Batman Gambit), or is it just that no one has gotten around to it?

The latter. And not all tropes which are character named get renamed, actually. Only the more problematic ones.

Can't outrun the bad guys? More power to the engines. The top speed of a space ship is totally independent of its design and mechanics, and is simply a function of how much raw power it has.

That sentence is actually correct, in a way. In space, top speed is light speed. Acceleration, however, is dependent on how much power your phlebotinum puts out (not gets in, though they might be related).

The "top speed" of a spaceship would be its "Delta-V" (see http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/mission.php#deltav), which is a function of only it's mass, its fuel capacity, and the efficiency and power of its engines. Maximum acceleration is just maximum thrust divided by (minimum) mass. Other "design and mechanics" are for the most part completely irrelevant.

I don't like how this sentence reads as if Sarcasm Mode is on.

I'll change the link from Space Does Not Work That Way to Truth in Television.

Would that AM/PM commercial with the phrase "You can't too much good stuff" and "Too much good stuff" fit here as well?
