"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWhy's this called Three Amigos? Where does that come from? Obviously not the movie so... what's the origin?

Hide / Show RepliesIt's supposed to be a Bilingual Bonus name, meaning "three friends" in Spanish - but it's a terrible name, as it connects it to ¡Three Amigos!, which has nothing to do with the trope.
Golden Trio would be a more fitting name, because the Trope Codifier from Harry Potter is often referred to as such.
Shouldn't this have more distinction from Two Guys and a Girl by removing the gender statements about the grouping?
Who needs a signature, really? Hide / Show RepliesTwo Guys And A Girl sounds like it's (or maybe, has become since this was posted) a different kettle of fish, since it's a conflicted relationship (or at least, a not amicable one) whereas Three Amigos (when, literally, two guys and a girl) involves friendship (also with the girl in question being more active) and only the possibility (or memory) of conflict over the girl. (And all of this is presuming they're all straight).
The best example that comes to mind is the Harry Potter trio - in the seventh book [[spoilers:when Ron leaves them, one of the factors is thinking that Hermione is actually in love with Harry or will be or something stupid like that (he's not the brains, at least the whole thing was augmented by magic). Prior to that, they're a Three Amigos (because all three parties are amicable with each other). During that, they're a Two Guys And A Girl or at least much closer to that, since there's a romantic conflict (sort of...) between two members over the third (and the genders line up). Once Ron comes back and everything's peachy keen again, at least regarding their loves lives, they're a Three Amigos again, since there's no romantic or platonic conflict between any of the three members who form a team/group/something together.]] Does that make sense?
The distinction (regarding one subset of Three Amigos) seems to be about the type of relationship between the members (key bit - it's strained, severely for Two Guys And A Girl). So, I think degendering the article isn't the solution.
Shouldn't this Trope have a different name though, Three Amigos barely relates to this trope. The Titular characters aren't even qualified for this trope. Really I fail to see the difference between this and Two Guys and A Girl, this is really just a subset of that trope where you remove the romantic tension.
