Insult Tropes, Gratitude Tropes, and Stock Phrases, though I really didn't see how it went in the last two so I deleted them.
As far as the "backfire" theme goes, that's Unexpected Reactions to This Index, to which I added both Insult Backfire and Threat Backfire.

Tempted to add another Real Life example, depending on how things turn out: the Ports of Auckland dispute. This could also go under You and What Army?.
The latest development is that the ITF - the global watersiders' union - has become involved and warns it will declare Ports of Auckland a 'port of convenience' in the same way a flag of convenience applies to a 'floating sweatshop'.
