There’s no time limit on this trope like Broken Base or Scrappy right?

I think the "They" in the title could be removed to make the trope more to-the-point

Has anyone saved the old set of examples anywhere? The edit history seems to have been purged too (vindictive much?), although I'm not sure as to whether this wiki saves every version of every page like Wikipedia does...

The history wasn't kept for that far back.

Now that's not fair, this one had some of my favorite examples. Why couldn't the mods just work harder on it?

Now that's just asking too much. The order of the day in the new tvtropes is rename all the tropes to be as generic as possible with no examples of any kind on any page that might actually be interesting.

I don't wanna restart discussion on the Example demolition of this subject, but really, this should at least list movies that had a pretty broad premise and then decided to cop out on a Wacky Wayside Tribe plotline, like the recent Shyamalan-Jaden Smith movie, After Earth.

Re cut request: Trope is under discussion in TRS and has 1500+ inbounds and 900+ wicks. Please don't cut it.

Indeed. Cut declined pending results of TRS thread.

Does anyone else think this page is just an excuse for individual fans to rattle off their pet storylines with no accountability?

This page is being split due to length. It has reached a size where it is in danger of causing server performance issues. See this thread for details.

To alleviate this, I split off the current content along the lines of the current folder structure. New examples should be placed in the appropriate media sub-pages.

What's the entry about Sleepy Hollow exactly complaining about? That the movie never got a sequel set in NYC? I don't think that qualifies as wasting a perfectly good plot as the movie we have has a perfectly good plot (and is awesome in general). Or is the complain based on the fact that this adaptation of Sleepy Hollow took place in, ahem, Sleepy Hollow?

I just don't know why they didn't put Haku and Zabuza's death in Masashi Kishimoto's Marysuetopia called Naruto.

Stephenie Meyer's books could also have potential to be under this trope, considering how she tries to explain some of the vampires' traits [such as the sparkling, OBVIOUS RETCON called renesmee, the shapeshifting wolves, and imprinting] with SCIENCE.

Another candidate: Queen's Blade. Plot is basically a "budokai tenkaichi" with medieval fantasy archetypes used as a poor excuse for boobs and half-naked buxoms posing everywhere.

Saint Seiya also fits this as well, since the protagonist CAN DEFEAT THE MOST POWERFUL ENEMIES OF the arc by just spamming ryuseikens and the girl who's supposed to be Athena is chickification in all of its essence.

Can we remove the The Little Mermaid example? Its just bitching about how the original's Shoot the Shaggy Dog ending was changed into (GASP!) an actual happy ending.

No, it's complaining that Ariel never apologized to her father, not that the ending was happy or not.

I'm surprised people were expecting enough from Megaman or platformer Mario game plots to be disappointed.
