That pre-introduction is terrible. It has to go. Readers shouldn't have to read an awful trope demonstrating story to get to the intro/description of the trope.

So is this specifically supposed to be about stars disappearing to show that something bad is happening? I could think of examples where a character or mechanism is blocking out stars or turning them off but that doesn't really seem to match the description.

On the other hand, it would match the laconic just right, should the laconic be made a little more narrow?
