I was searching for a rather different thing from this trope, The Wise Farmer, in which one particular farmer is shown to be unusually intelligent, knowledgeable AND wise, standing out from the profession.
One example is the British farm owner that Gwalchmai meets in “Hawk of May”. Another is Farmer Maggot from Lot R. Neither are geniuses, but they have knowledge and understanding that goes far beyond their profession, and neither text implies that all farmers are like that.
