So do the male Scotonians from the book Meda: A Tale of The Future count as this? What about H.G. Wells's The Man of the Year Million

This may not count but in the Mighty Max episode Zygote's Rhythm Zygote uses his evolutionary machine to evolve himself into a future state. What he evolves into looks like a Grey alien except instead of being grey he is green in color.

The greys in Deus Ex were never intended as actual greys. The designers have said several times that they were used to divert attention from what was really going on at Area 51. They were more or less a diversionary tactic, meant to discredit anyone who tried to leak MJ 12 secrets. Bob Page and co. probably knew what they were, but most scientists and engineers were in the dark about it.

Grey? I typically see them green in works. Is that a different trope?

Yes: Little Green Men.

It looks different. The one I'm thinking of looks like Greys but they're almost always green.

Your TV may need to be looked at, they are nearly always grey.

Why do we always assume aliens look humanoid? Anthropocentrism much?
