Can this trope be explained more? like 75% of this trope is explanations of other tropes. It's a bit disappointing. :(
I came because of Heather Sinclair from Degrassi, who is never seen but always spoken about as if she's this really important popular person.

So, does a character whose identity is meant to be anonymous (though later given a reveal) count? Say he's some combination of Mission Control, The Voice, and a Big Brother Mentor, and the setting is a crossover Fan Fiction where this person is from a canon yet to be identified.
