Does this apply to you guys? I can't really say it does for me.
Some things are beautiful because you can't possess them.IMO, this trope can have unfortunate implications. It portrays women as not strong enough to get over things when done poorly. It is a woman with the baggage 90% of the time. Also, it often makes the new guy look like a jerkass for wanting her to have a happy normal loving relationship with him rather than build a shrine to her eternal victimhood. I think that a person who survives abuse to become stronger and build a stable, happy, loving family makes a good story too, even if it minimizes Wangst.
Hide / Show RepliesHmmm, I would agree that this trope is usually female...except the examples right now are 50/50. Plus, this can often be a way for writers to acknowledge a past relationship instead of acting like it never happened when writing a character in a new relationship (like the Avatar example).
Does this apply to you guys? I apologize for the double post (I pressed the wrong button).
